Academy’s Genius Swordmaster - Chapter 16
16. Announcement of results
#16
“There it is. Red guy.”
Ronan extended his finger and pointed in the middle of the crowd. The image of Asher reeling from being run over by people was just like a tulip blooming among the reeds.
He looked around on tiptoe and waved at Ronan.
“Ronan! Marya!”
“Looks like that bastard did well on his exam.”
“huh. Anyone can see.”
Asher’s expression was as bright as the sky hanging over his head. After completing the practical test, the three of them moved to a restaurant Marja knew. It was a famous chicken dish restaurant in Jedo Island.
“Ehehe…”
Asher muttered as if he were drunk the entire time he ate. He smiled hee hee even after licking his small mouth, like a child who really lacked something. Ronan, who couldn’t see it, opened his mouth.
“You showed me how great it was, so you split it up like that? Did you even wipe the judges’ butts off with your telekinesis?”
“do you want to die?”
Marja threw away the chicken wing she was holding. Asher, who barely came to his senses, explained what had happened at the test site.
“Damn, you lifted thirty logs to the ceiling? And then go round and round?”
“Ugh…”
Among the candidates who came to take the test that day, Asher was the only wizard who handled telekinesis. Perhaps because of this, the judges’ attitude was quite favorable, and they said that they were able to demonstrate their skills without making mistakes.
“You eat it all, Asher. Move our house here too.”
Is this kid really a genius? Ronan admired while tearing off a chicken leg the size of a human head. Considering how much he struggled to lift a child, it was a remarkable improvement.
After the meal, the party immediately dispersed to their respective accommodations. Because the written exam was right around the corner, there was no time to play. Asher, who was lying on his bed and reviewing, asked a question.
“Can I not see Ronan again?”
“Like this…or was it this angle…um? what?”
Ronan was imitating the swordsmanship used by Nabi Roze at the daytime test site. I was intrigued because it was a technology I had never seen before. His notebook was tucked away in the corner of the room along with the clothes to be washed.
“I know you worked hard, but…it might come out difficult.”
Written was less graded than practical, but it was by no means negligible. Ronan snorted.
“Yumma, let’s sell our worries. ask me anything I will answer you.”
“Umm…then…what is the main architectural style in the western Doranda region?”
“Aresco.”
Asher’s eyes widened. He flipped through his notebook and asked a few questions.
“Then… what are the three great wonders that Archmage Lorhorn has accomplished?”
“Spiral Tower Light Attribute Magic Boiling Fire.”
“What is the name of the fantasy species called the mother of fire?”
“Red Dragon Navardoze.”
Ronan said without looking back at Asher. He gave perfect answers to eight of the ten questions that followed. Asher involuntarily clapped.
“Great, Ronan! really!”
“I memorized it while saving time to poop, but it’s strange that I don’t know.”
Ronan, who had no common sense to base on, almost memorized the entire book Marya lent him. The two unanswered questions were mana formulas that needed to be solved.
He gave up math problems that required calculations and set up a strategy in the direction of memorizing the whole thing.
Ronan turned his back and returned to his stance. The mysterious sword path that Navi Rose showed was being reproduced in the narrow room.
“Thank God…”
Asher let out a sigh of relief and closed the notebook. To be honest, I never imagined that Ronan would have prepared for the written exam as well. But isn’t this a great level?
He hummed and took another notebook from his backpack. The second volume of the book Marya lent her. So, it was a notebook that summarized the other half of the information.
‘Of course I’ve memorized the second volume, right?’
Asher decided not to ask. Since he had already perfectly memorized the contents of the commercial district, there was a high possibility that it would be pointless.
As it turned out, I only studied the commercial district. Will the same thing happen? It’s not even a bad joke.
Three days later, the three of them took a written test at the same time at the Gallerion main building. The decision to join Phileon Academy was announced on the same day that the written exam ended.
****
“A beggarly life.”
It was a spotlessly clear night. Countless people were crowded in the plaza under the white full moon. All of them were test takers who came to check whether they had passed the academy.
Ronan was smoking a cigarette between them. The sunken eyes were half tasted. Asher fidgeted and tugged at his collar.
“Let’s go back to Professor Baren now. I’m asking for a letter of recommendation again. huh?”
“I’d rather stick a knife down my asshole and slice a watermelon.”
“At that time, you said you would bring it even if you begged for it?”
“Can’t I even joke?”
“Then what should I do…”
Asher cried. A huge snake of guilt seemed to tighten my heart. said Ronan, emitting smoke again.
“Why are you worried? Even if I fall, I fall.” “It’s my own fault…
if
I had only asked then…”
I hope he finally caught someone. Ronan was unaware of the existence of the lower volume. Somehow, relying on memory and common sense, I wrote it down far, but about half of the problems were blown away.
“Ah, don’t worry too much.”
Marja, who joined later, patted him on the back. Unlike Asher, who was terrified, there was no trace of worry on her face.
“If you fail, you can come in as my junior next year. uh? Isn’t that bad?”
“Thank you for the blessing.”
Marja growled. That’s what she said, but she didn’t think Ronan would fall.
After facing swords, she was sure. It was a sword skill that would not be strange even if it received the highest score.
At that moment, a blue ball of fire shot up into the empty night sky.
– Pyoo oh oh!
The fireball that reached a certain altitude exploded and changed into the shape of a huge eagle. cried the wide-eyed Marja, pulling the two boys by the neck.
“Announce!”
“Keck!”
The strangled Asher tapped Marja’s arm. At the same time, the eagle spread its wings. The names of the successful applicants were written on the wings that circled the sky in the plaza.
Because of the magic that strengthens eyesight and reading comprehension, successful candidates were able to quickly find their names. Before long, cheers and sighs poured out from all over the crowd.
“Passed! Caw!”
“Me too!”
“Aaaagh! no!!”
It was a moment of intersection of joy and sorrow. There was a girl who burst into tears and sat down out of nowhere, and there was an idiot who screamed and went into a head spin on the spot. There were far more sad people than happy people.
“Mamarya… over there!”
Suddenly Asher pointed to the middle of his right wing. Turning her head, Marja hardened as if she had turned to stone. The all-too-familiar name was written there. with rank.
[Martial arts department / Marja Caravel: 9th in practical skills, 9th in writing (4)]
“Ah…”
It was a grade that could receive a scholarship. She stared blankly at her name. My vision was blurred for an instant because the days I had been working hard for had passed before my eyes.
“Ayyyyy.”
Marja wiped her eyes with her sleeve and raised her head again. As she looked at the list again, a loud cry came out of her mouth.
“hey! Up there!”
Asher was still searching for his own name. Marja lifted him up and made him see the eagle’s left wing.
“Fifteenth from the left! Three spaces from top to bottom!”
“uh…?”
Clink. The staff slipped out of Asher’s hand and fell to the floor.
[Magic / Asher: 12th in practical skills, 1st in writing (3)]
“I… I’m 1st in writing…?”
“Cutie! What the hell is this! huh?”
Marja hugged Asher tightly. It was an unbelievable result after only one month of preparation. In the practical test, even if it was said that he received preferential treatment as a psychokinesis wizard, getting first place in the written test meant that he got almost a perfect score.
“By the way, what is (3)?”
“That means there are three more people with the same score as you. One must be Schlieffen, and I can guess who the other is.”
This time, Marja mentioned the girl who came in as the adopted daughter of the Akalusia family.
A rare genius who possesses three attributes at the same time. He said that the head of the magic department was probably her.
“I really should call you seniors for this.”
Then I heard giggling from the side. At the same time, the faces of the two people who turned their heads stiffened. Ronan, who had taken his eyes off the list a long time ago, was smoking a cigarette.
“Wait a minute, Ronan. No name…?”
“Hey, don’t play around.”
“You can go to school next year, so what?”
Ronan shrugged once and pointed into the air. I meant you guys to look for it.
Asher, who floated himself with telekinesis, began to search the list again.
“No… really…”
Asher’s voice trembled. Marja smiled awkwardly and squeezed Ronan’s arm.
“Ah, that can’t be. There will be.”
“No?”
“do not say that.”
She tried to pretend to be calm, but she couldn’t hide the rapid breathing. Ronan wordlessly poured more powder into his pipe. The two looked at the roster with an attitude that could be said to be desperate.
“This… this is nonsense…”
Ronan’s name was nowhere to be seen. It was the same no matter how many times I re-read it.
“What is the mistake? huh? This is nonsense.”
“Marya.”
“Common sense, yes! Does this make sense?!”
Marya shouted as she grabbed Ronan’s shoulders. Seeing his wet eyes, Ronan smiled bitterly.
Then another ball of fire shot up into the sky.
-pop!
It was red, contrasting with the blue fire from earlier. The crowd’s attention was focused on a halo of light that was much brighter than the previous one.
“Is that…?”
Of the three, only Marah knew the identity of the flame.
Glory Phoenix. A bird of glory that announces only the names of the chief and second-in-command.
The rapidly flying ball of fire took the form of a phoenix and wrapped around the sky directly above its head.
-Pui-yo-oh-oh!
The Phoenix spread its wings. In an instant, a group of bright and colorful lights embroidered all over the place, as if the sun had risen.
People who bowed their heads vertically cheered.
“Waaaaaa!!”
Asher and Marya were still looking for Ronan’s name. The two people who reflexively raised their heads froze.
Ronan tilted his head.
“ok? Why?”
“Roronan… so, so, so… that…”
“Speak, man. speak.”
Asher stuttered like a parrot with dementia. Marja was no different.
Ronan, frustrated, raised his gaze. The names of four people floated in the night sky.
[Chief of Martial Arts / Schlieffen Siniban de Grancia]
[Chief of Magic / Erzebet de Acalucia]
The writing was large enough to be seen throughout the islands. The first thing that came in was the names of the gold-glowing chieftains.
‘As expected, the head of the martial arts department is Schlieffen. But who was Elizabeth?’
Anyway, Ronan, who confirmed the chiefs, lowered his gaze. The names of the second-in-command were shining with a slightly more frugal silver color than that of the chief.
[Deputy Chief of Martial Arts / Ronan]
[Deputy Chief of Magic / Fion Chalphine]
The pipe that was in Ronan’s mouth fell.
