Academy’s Genius Swordmaster - Chapter 89
[ 89. Shoot at the Dawn (2) ]
#89
“Fuck.”
Seven huge fireballs were flying towards the airship. There was an eerie sound of flames burning the air. Ronan, realizing that he was fucked up, shook Elizabeth’s shoulder.
“Yama wake up!”
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”
Elizabeth, staggering as she was shaken, sat down on the floor. I woke up, but I couldn’t come to my senses because of the repeated nausea. The griffons, excited by the fireball, began to struggle.
– Hwi-yoo-oh!
“are you okay. It’s okay, calm down…!”
The jockeys in charge of steering tried to calm him down, but it was not enough. The hull began to shake violently as if it had met a storm.
Within seconds, a man who appeared to be the captain and crew members jumped out onto the deck. A scream erupted from their mouths when they discovered the fireball belatedly.
“Huh!”
“What is that?!”
Judging from the reaction, it didn’t seem like the event was coordinated with the Magic Tower in advance. The captain staggered and ran and struck the bell installed at the stern. Deng-! Deng-! A loud metallic sound resounded across the sky.
“No. 1, No. 5 and No. 7 brake! The rest of you turn left and lower your altitude!”
the captain exclaimed urgently. The riders carried out the order as best they could. The airship, which had somehow regained balance, was attempting an evasive maneuver, but the fireball was faster than expected. After reading the trajectory, Ronan gritted his teeth.
‘Three feet fit.’
Of the seven fireballs, there were three that could be hit directly. It was good enough to say that the guy flying from the front, aiming for the hull, would be hit unconditionally.
I had to stop it somehow. While looking around, a rope for anchoring caught my eye. One end was firmly fixed to the hull.
Ronan wrapped the rope tightly around his waist. And without hesitation, he jumped toward the fireball. Looking at the empty feet, a curse came out on its own. The wind was roaring in my ears.
“Fuck.”
It seems that a lot of things like this have been happening in the sky lately. Before I knew it, the fireball was approaching me. The cluster of flames, which seemed to be a good 3m in diameter, was much larger than it looked from a distance. Suaaa – A strange breathing sound began to leak from Ronan’s mouth.
‘It shouldn’t be cut in moderation.’
It had to be blown up without a trace. If it was split halfway, the possibility of getting hit could increase.
Ronan tugged at the hilt. Dozens of slashing strokes, each in a different direction, poured over the fireball. The moment the fireball hit Ronan, a blast sound rang out. Paaang! The flames, torn into hundreds of pieces, scattered like an explosion.
“It kills me.”
It was the first performance in practice. Ronan looked at La Mancha with eyes that he couldn’t believe even though he swung it. The mana-fed swordsman had a subtle red color.
The fragments of the torn fire could not overcome the blowing headwind and were extinguished. The rope connected to the hull was fully extended.
Ronan’s body, which was falling, stopped with the recoil. At the same time, the rest of the fireballs brushed past him.
I had no choice but to leave it to fate. A few seconds later, an explosion sounded from behind.
– Kwakwang! bang!!
‘Did I get sick?’
Ronan hurriedly turned his head. Seeing the airship in good health, his face brightened. A purple mana shield covered the hull and griffons. Fireballs collided in places on the shield, and smoke was rising.
“Good job Elizabeth!”
“Ahh…it’s the head. How did this happen…?”
Elizabeth was complaining of a hangover with her upper body leaning against the railing. A fireball suddenly flew in and blocked it, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on.
-Kiik. profit.
“huh?”
Suddenly, I saw a rope that was pulled taut and creaked. Elizabeth lowered her gaze along the rope and screamed. Down there, Ronan was dangling, tied upside down.
“Lord Ronan? Why are you there…?!”
“Why do you think there is?”
“I’ll upload it right now!”
Elizabeth stretched out her arms toward Ronan. An invisible hand caught him. Ronan jumped up like a herring after biting a hook and landed on the deck. Elizabeth, who staggered over, covered her mouth with her hand and spoke.
“sorry. Uug… I can’t control my strength yet.”
“No, good work.”
“What the hell happened…? Actually, I can’t remember well since last night…”
“You’ll want to jump if you know.”
Ronan laughed. There were still faint marks of spittle on his shoulder. Originally, I was going to tell you about the feeling of shame by going through what happened, but since I belatedly came to my senses, I decided to watch it. The captain and crew came rushing in.
“Are you all right?!”
“I saw you blocking a fireball. How can you tie yourself up with a rope and jump down…!”
“Thank you very much. If it wasn’t for you two, I’d be stuck!”
They bowed their heads and expressed their gratitude. Elizabeth ran to the corner with her mouth shut. Seeing a girl who couldn’t stand compliments like that, it seemed that she had a pretty bad hangover.
‘Anyway, I’m glad.’
Ronan looked around and let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, no one seemed to be hurt or the griffon. After breathing a sigh of relief, Ronan looked at the captain and opened his mouth.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know either. Apparently, I was in touch with the Mage Tower until we left… I’ve been driving this ship for 10 years, but this is the first time.”
“Damn, aren’t there a few more coming?”
Ronan narrowed his eyes and looked at the magic tower. Fortunately, there were no signs of further attack.
The captain and crew began discussing the next course of action. It was a car that was tilting its opinion toward turning around or making an emergency landing. Suddenly, a male voice resounded in Ronan’s head.
[Can you hear me? I’m Aun Pil, the current Dawning Magic Tower Master’s deputy.]
“Ah, it’s a surprise.”
Ronan’s eyes widened at the sudden transmission. The startled captain shrugged. Judging from the similar reactions of everyone on the deck, it seemed that the message was being sent to a large number of people.
[A little while ago, I confirmed that a total of seven fire ball spells were fired at your ship. This attack was not the intention of the Dawning Mage Tower, and they are currently searching for the suspect with all their might.]
“What?”
[I will meet you in person to explain the details. I will take measures for your safety, so please land safely.]
Transmission cut off. It was the moment Ronan shouted, “How can you believe such a thing?” Shuaak! A thick mana shield that seemed to be able to block even a dragon’s breath surrounded the entire airship.
****
The sun clearly appeared and poured out the dawn. The appearance of the Dawn Mage Tower, dyed in tangerine, was filling up his field of vision. The captain, who was watching the situation from the stern, sighed.
“Whoa… I don’t know if this is the right judgment.”
“I guess I am right. You should at least see the face of the guy who shot the fireball.”
Ronan tapped the captain on the shoulder. After deliberation, he chose to land. It was because the fatigue of the griffons and riders had accumulated and they could no longer continue flying.
The airship landed directly in the garden of the Dawning Magic Tower, not the original landing site, at the recommendation of the magic tower owner’s deputy. Griffin and the riders, who had suffered a bout of trouble, collapsed. Ronan looked around the garden and shrugged his eyebrows.
“The scenery is nice.”
The circular garden was a space that combines aesthetics and practicality. A variety of flowers and trees were growing on the evenly laid lawn. Most of them were plants used as materials for magic or experiments.
‘hmm?”
Ronan, who suddenly found an unusually desolate area, shrugged his eyebrows. The little grassy soil was awkwardly filled with rocks and statues. It didn’t take long to figure out why.
‘It must have been a fairly large explosion.’
Ronan twitched his lips. It was clear that Nebula Klazier had self-destructed a few months ago. When the airship landed, wizards in red robes began to gather in groups of twos and threes. All of their backs were embroidered with sun patterns symbolizing the Dawning Tower.
“Oh God. Why is this happening again…”
“It’s ominous. Why does this keep happening? Not too long ago, there was even a missing person.”
“This is a curse. Can we still bring in outsiders?”
The wizards were whispering, even pointing fingers at the airship. I didn’t like the attitude of treating them as if they were pests. curse? missing person? What do you mean?
‘I don’t like it.’
Ronan put his hand on the hilt. If any of them did something stupid, I was going to slash them right away.
The ship’s entrance had been open for a long time, but work was work, and passengers were not able to disembark easily. Taking a deep breath, the captain was the first to get off the ship. It was the car Ronan was about to jump off the deck. Roaring! Suddenly, a tall, narrow column of fire shot up from a spot about three steps away from the captain.
“What the fuck is it?”
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”
Ronan spat out a curse and pulled the hilt. Passengers panicked and backed away.
A man in a colorful robe stepped out of the flames that scattered like flower petals. He was a middle-aged man with a stylish mustache and sideburns. He held out his hand to the bewildered captain and said.
“You worked hard to come. I am Aun Pillar, the current Dawning Magic Tower Master and Top Mage.”
It was a tumultuous appearance. The captain, knocking down his chest, responded to his handshake.
“…Captain Triol of the West Wing.”
“I’m sorry for putting you through such an ordeal. I sincerely apologize.”
“I wish I could explain the situation properly. If it wasn’t for the two of you, it could have been really big.”
The captain pointed to Ronan and Elizabeth standing side by side on the deck and said. Aun Fila nodded as if he had no face.
“We are also working hard on the investigation. The place where the magic was cast and the unique mana wavelength have been secured, so the culprit will probably be caught sooner or later.”
“I hope so.”
“I will contact you as soon as we have the suspect’s identity secured. The Dawning Mage Tower will compensate for all material damage caused by this incident, so please take your anger out.”
Aun Fila lowered her head. It was ambiguous to argue further with the top owner’s assistant manager coming this far. The captain, reluctantly accepting the apology, turned his back. Elizabeth, who was standing next to Ronan, murmured in surprise.
“I heard a glimpse of it through transmission, but… you really must be Aun Fila-sama.”
“Is it worth living for now?”
“Yes…I’m sorry for bothering you.”
Elizabeth bowed her head. It seemed that the elongation had worked, and the improved complexion stood out. Ronan, who saw his gloomy appearance, smiled.
“I hope it gets better. Are you famous?”
“yes. A hot bird, Aun Fila. He is one of the few 7th circle mages on the continent.”
Elizabeth’s voice was a mix of caution and envy. Come to think of it, it seemed like I had heard the nickname Yeoljo a lot somewhere. Ronan, who was searching for memories, asked with his eyes narrowed.
“…Is that a person who fights by making birds out of fire? You change yourself.”
“that’s right. It’s like Aun Pillar’s signature magic. Did you know?”
“Damn that was that guy.”
I asked just in case, but the person he knew was right. I couldn’t recognize him because I’d only seen the magic he cast and his transformation.
Aun Phila. He was the one who led a part of the wizards in the final battle, summoning dozens of birds of prey made of flames and turning himself into a huge phoenix to roam the battlefield.
‘He was a fierce warrior.’
Suddenly recalling his end, Ronan clicked his tongue. Aun Pillar, who was active while reducing Ahayute’s summoned beasts to ashes, was eventually shot down by the spear of light. It was right after he died that the formation of the wizards, who had been holding out in their own way, collapsed.
‘Still, I’m glad he’s a trustworthy person.’
Seeing the person who remained until the last moment made me happy and also in a mixed mood. There was a guarantee that he would not betray, but he was destined to die anyway.
The passengers who were at least relieved by Aun Pillar’s words were getting off the ship one by one. It was the moment when Ronan was also about to move to fulfill his business at the Mage Tower.
“Wait a minute, you two.”
“ok?”
Ronan lowered his gaze. Aun Fila was staring at him. He looked around to see if he was seeing someone else, but he and Elizabeth were the only ones left on the deck.
“What’s going on?”
“I saw the two of you in action below. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.”
Roaring! Suddenly, a rising pillar of fire wrapped around Aun Pillar’s body. Both of them’ eyes widened. At that moment, right behind Ronan, the same pillar of fire surged up and Aun Pillar, who had disappeared, appeared. Elizabeth, completely oblivious to it, screamed.
“Kyaaak!”
“Damn it. What are we going to do?”
In Ronan’s hand, La Mancha, which had already been pulled out, was shining. The mana leaking from the 7th circle mage’s body was so thick that it made me dizzy. Aun Fila, who looked down at the two, opened her mouth.
“I want to talk to you guys. Is it okay for a moment?”
