F-Class Destiny Hunter - Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Her voice was so bright and cheerful, making Seo Gangrim wonder for a moment if what was in the carrier bag was a doll rather than a person.
The person inside the carrier bag was trembling in terror. If not for the tape over his mouth, he looked like he would have screamed. That’s why they taped it shut, Seo Gangrim guessed.
“What do you think? I took care putting together the packaging.”
Instead of tying his wrists and ankles with rope like normal, he was tied up with red ribbons. The tape over his mouth was a gaudy design, too. It looked like a cruel joke.
“So you’re telling me to kill this person now and steal his Destiny?”
“Yup. I debated whether to bring him dead, but I didn’t know what conditions you needed to activate your ability,” Shin Ara explained casually.
Looking at her, Seo Gangrim felt more contempt than fear. He knew she had a cruel nature, but seeing it in person was still shocking.
“Ah, if you’re worried about disposing of the body, don’t stress about it. We’ll take care of it here in our organization.”
Saying that, she reached into the suitcase. Then, she pulled something out from among the stacks of cash and handed it to Seo Gangrim. It was a sharp dagger.
“I want to see it. You stealing his Destiny.”
Seeing the dagger, the bound person’s eyes grew wide. He struggled, trying to resist, but his movements were hindered.
When Seo Gangrim silently accepted the dagger, Shin Ara’s eyes shone with curiosity. She seemed like a child watching bugs being dissected.
Seo Gangrim then brought the dagger to the person.
-Swish
The ribbons were sliced off, falling away. The other person looked at Seo Gangrim, not understanding what was happening. Seo Gangrim removed the tape from his mouth, and then said, “You should escape or do what you want now.”
Seeing this, Shin Ara had a somewhat disappointed expression. She slowly rolled her eyes towards him.
“You don’t like my gift?”
“Does it seem like I would?”
Seo Gangrim had no hobby or reason to randomly kill an unrelated person in broad daylight. Even if he did have such an inclination, did Shin Ara think he would with Shin Sooah standing right outside? Well, if she assumed he’d flip for 500 million, maybe she thought he would.
Disappointed, Shin Ara said, “I prepared it carefully though… Should I have brought him dead instead?”
Seo Gangrim had met many weirdos, but she was one of the worst. Looking at her Destiny window, he could tell she had accumulated substantial karma, so he expected it to some degree, but…
‘What a waste of time.’
Seo Gangrim got up from his seat and grabbed the door handle to leave.
“Ah, you’re just leaving like that?”
Shin Ara looked at him regretfully. With a face like that, she had sent Yoon Bom to kill several people. It seemed best to avoid entanglement with these people.
-Click
Without responding, Seo Gangrim opened the door and exited. Shin Sooah was leaning against the wall, waiting for him.
Seeing him emerge, she stood up straight.
“I’m sorry for the trouble, Seo Gangrim-ssi. My sister spouted more nonsense.”
It seemed she had been watching what happened inside. But judging by her composed attitude, it seemed she had experienced situations like this multiple times before.
Shin Sooah approached the room. “I’ll take that person back out. If he stays here, my sister will certainly-”
Shin Sooah suddenly closed her mouth, which was understandable given that there were several presences and ominous energy approaching from behind. Quietly looking back, Seo Gangrim saw that the karaoke door opened and people started filing out one by one.
“Pity. I didn’t want to use force, but oh well.”
Shin Ara’s voice came from behind. It sounded like the inside room was locked, based on the ka-chunk locking noises. She smiled at Seo Gangrim and Shin Sooah.
“Since you both came, I can’t just let you leave now. Will you come to me now? I’ll still give you the gift, Gangrim.”
The people filling the hallway were clearly not ordinary. Their eyes held cruelty and viciousness not easily found even among hunters. Moreover, many were holding sharp knives. They all seemed to be Sura clan members.
“So, ready to accept my gift now?”
“I already returned it. And I won’t be joining Sura sect.”
“You choose a difficult path.”
Shin Ara heaved a long sigh, then loudly shouted into the mic, “Grab them both! Gangrim…hmm.”
She contemplated briefly before continuing.
“You can kill him, but try to keep him alive if possible. He’s to my taste.”
“Yes, boss!”
“Sister, what on earth are you…!”
“Or Sooah, will you come to me? Then I’ll safely let Gangrim go.”
At those words, Shin Sooah bit her lip tightly. Shin Sooah looked shocked by her sister’s actions, but Seo Gangrim wasn’t very surprised.
Eliminating the members of Flying Tiger Sect was something Shin Ara did in the past. Sura sect and Flying Tiger Sect had an intense feud, solely because of Shin Ara. She thought that if she destroyed Flying Tiger Sect, Shin Sooah would come to her.
It was a form of threat. Like the god who tried to posses Seo Gangrim, if he didn’t accept, the god harmed those around him.
“…I expected my sister would use extreme methods, but not to this degree.”
“But it’s roughly what you anticipated, right?”
The reason Shin Sooah asked Seo Gangirm to come with her was to prepare for situations like this. Given Shin Ara’s personality, it might not end with just talk. There was a chance of fighting, so she asked him to come along.
“And I promised, right? No matter what, I’d get Seo Gangrim-ssi out safely.” Saying that, Shin Sooah looked back.
The Sura sect members had all taken aggressive stances, ready to attack.
Shin Sooah’s eyes flashed green. “We need to take them all out at once and leave.”
[The talent ‘Way of the Forest’ is activating!]
In an instant, sprouts burst through the cracks in the building. The power was weakened by the lack of soil or plants underground, but she could now activate it in any situation.
Just as Shin Sooah was about to control the tree roots to restrain the members, Seo Gangrim stopped her, and said, “Shin Sooah-ssi, stop.”
“Huh?”
Shin Sooah halted her attack at his words. He briefly glanced at the people. Even as the roots grew to attack them, they showed no sign of trying to dodge. Instead, they seemed to be waiting for the attack.
“These people, they don’t seem to be Awakened.”
After checking their Destiny windows, he realized they were all still ordinary people who hadn’t Awakened.
Shin Sooah looked at them curiously before making a realizing expression. “Could it be they’re trying to get attacked on purpose…?”
“Yes. It’s illegal for an Awakened to use abilities or weapons against non-Awakened.”
It was one of the new laws created after the Day of Awakening. Awakened battling each other using abilities was tolerated to some degree. But if an Awakened attacked a non-Awakened with an ability, severe penalties were imposed.
“Oh, Gangrim’s quick to notice?”
Shin Ara said amusedly from behind.
“I planned to report you if you attacked using abilities. I wanted to force you to join on the condition of not reporting.”
“You take advantage of the law even as gangsters?”
“Use what you can, right?” Shin Ara smiled shyly.
Then she knocked on the door and said to the members, “Plan A failed. Proceed to Plan B.”
Right after she finished speaking, the members took clear aggressive stances. Their sharply honed knives shone vividly even in the darkness.
“Restrain them both. But keep them alive.”
“Yes!”
Following Shin Ara’s order, the thugs came at them wielding their weapons. Seeing their vicious grins, this was clearly not their first time.
Shin Sooah became very wary and said, “These people, they might be non-Awakened but they’re experienced fighters. Don’t underestimate them.”
As she said, these men had been exposed to violence and blood even before the Day of Awakening. If they let their guard down, these thugs would stab without hesitation.
“There’s about thirty, I guess.”
“We can’t use abilities or weapons.”
They were at a numerical disadvantage, and would be penalized if they used their abilities.
Hearing their words, one of the members laughed and said, “You get it now? Then give up and get captured obediently…”
“Give up?”
-Thwack!
Seo Gangrim immediately grabbed the man’s head and slammed him into the wall. With the sound of bones crunching, his body trembled and crumpled.
Seo Gangrim dusted his hands and said, “We can just restrain them with bare hands, what giving up?”
Seeing this, the gangsters became flustered. It seemed they had never properly fought an Awakened before. Before the Day of Awakening, they must have believed they stood at the pyramid’s peak. They must have delighted in using violence against the common people, forcing them to submit. That’s why they still had such delusions. They still thought they had the advantage even though they’re against two Awakened individuals. But the world had changed now.
-Thwack!
“Argh!”
Seo Gangrim smashed his fist into the face of a man charging at him and kicked the man in the solar plexus, sending him flying.
As Seo Gangrim guessed, it was harder to just beat them up rather than kill them. he steadily took down the men rushing at him one by one.
“Damn, how are we getting pushed back when we outnumber them?!”
“Boss, but that guy’s too strong!”
Now they seemed to realize the difference in strength. The men hesitated, knives in hand, before turning to look at Shin Sooah.
“Restrain the young miss first! She only has one arm!”
At the same time they spoke, the men shifted towards Shin Sooah. From the atmosphere, they planned to restrain Shin Sooah even if they had to injure her.
“Young miss Sooah, sorry! Please bear with it for a moment!”
The moment the slovenly men charged at her, Shin Sooah raised her head.
“I’m not your young miss.”
-Thwack!
Shin Sooah’s kick sent three men flying simultaneously. They crumpled, seeming to have lost consciousness from the impact. As the remaining members panicked, at a loss, Shin Sooah walked towards them. Her eyes were shining sharply.
“And I’m fine even without an arm.”
