Golden Mage - Chapter 16
Volume 1, Episode 16
El muttered as he looked at the corpse he had summoned the golem to deal with.
“First, I need to get rid of this body. Can’t let Mom or anyone else see it.”
As El pointed to the lifeless body sprawled in the yard, the golem stepped forward and picked up the corpse, walking away to some unknown destination.
Then, El turned towards the rejuvenated garden, filled with blood and brains, and unleashed his magic.
“Clean Filed.”
Shaaaat!
A 10-meter area around El was engulfed by blue pillars, and the blood and brains scattered about began to dissipate.
As the spot where a person had died turned immaculate as if nothing had happened, El smiled.
“That should do it. Now, how about some morning exercise?”
It was yet another ordinary day without any significant changes.
For the past two years, El’s family had been leading an unchanging life. However, that was only on the surface. Everyone, including El, was living a busy life.
First of all, Sephyl had reached the 6th Class Expert level. With each passing day, she grew familiar with the silent breath technique, and her mana response had increased dramatically, making her progress at a staggering rate that would astonish anyone.
Serena had reached the 3rd Class Expert level. As a Grand Mage prepared by El, she already excelled in magical formulae and had room for further growth if her mana response improved.
But the most surprising achievement came from Kaina.
El had only taught Kaina the silent breath technique, yet she had broken through and ascended to the Sword Expert level, shattering her limits using that single technique.
Although her progress in swordsmanship was supported by her enhanced sword skills, it was possible due to her innate understanding and relentless effort.
Under the remarkable achievements of these girls, there was another individual achieving even more remarkable feats – El himself.
El was now fourteen years old, and he had already reached the 6th Class Master level. Furthermore, the magic he used was three to five times faster to cast than conventional magic thanks to the synthesis of the knowledge of both Earth and this world.
Among the 6th Class Masters of his age, he possessed the strongest power.
Recently, starting from the 7th Class, El needed a deeper understanding. Therefore, he reduced the time spent on magic training and focused on supplementing the Mage’s close combat by working on the creation of golems.
The golem El was trying to create was a Knight Golem.
The golem that had eliminated numerous assassins and spies was not the ‘completed’ Knight Golem but rather an ‘experimental’ version.
It was designed to create the ultimate weapon – a single, most potent weapon.
After obtaining the design of the Knight Golem from Briohn and two years passing, El was constantly advancing toward creating the Knight Golem.
Amidst this seemingly ordinary routine, something terrible (?) happened one morning, but El had already forgotten about it as he entered the mansion with a refreshing face.
The morning was exceptionally busy.
Serena’s cooking skills had improved significantly, and she prepared food while Kaina organized the surroundings and prepared breakfast.
It was all for Sephyl, who had become very busy since reaching the 6th Class. The menu was also crafted to help relieve fatigue and provide a nourishing meal.
When El entered the mansion, Kaina, who was cleaning, shyly greeted him. The girl, who was the same age as El, was now showing signs of a young lady.
“Are you awake now?”
“Ah, Kaina, you’ve been working hard since morning.”
In response to Kaina’s greeting, El smiled and greeted her.
“This is my job.”
“Haha, I know. But still, it’s good to appreciate the hard work.”
At El’s words, Kaina blushed slightly and remained silent. Throughout her life, she had come to realize one clear fact among the few people she had encountered besides El and Sephyl – there was no one as kind as El and Sephyl.
Everyone else looked at her with greedy eyes due to her appearance and noble background. Because of that, she almost ended up being sold as a slave and was indeed registered as one.
But thanks to Sephyl’s help, she could now live an ordinary life.
The feeling of having a family, something she had never experienced before.
To others, El and Sephyl might seem cold, but Kaina could feel the warmth of family from them. That was why she always felt grateful to El and Sephyl.
Seeing El’s worried tone, she nodded her head shyly, unable to say anything more. The fact that she had such thoughts made her feel guilty and apologetic towards El.
Smiling at her, El turned to Serena.
“Serena, did you sleep well?”
Now a sixteen-year-old woman, Serena responded with a soft smile.
“Yes, I did. Did you sleep well?”
“I’m always the same.”
After a brief exchange, El and the two women took their seats.
A while later, Sephyl entered the dining room. She looked exhausted.
As she entered, El and the two women greeted her, and Sephyl responded with a smile as she sat down.
“Mom, don’t push yourself too hard with your training. You’re already amazing as you are.”
El’s concerned tone brought a smile to Sephyl’s lips.
At times like this, genuine concern from family had a tremendous impact.
“I want to, but I keep feeling restless.”
She replied.
“I’m already amazed at how incredible you are. So, please, train while getting enough rest. That way, you’ll be more efficient.”
Understanding her feelings behind the words, Sephyl nodded her head.
“Yeah, you’re right. Since my Elli is worried, I’ll do that.”
Though she said that, she had a specific reason to ascend to the 6th Class Master as soon as possible. She couldn’t reveal it yet, but it was for her sake and El’s, even if only to provide a better future for him.
El smiled as Sephyl showed appreciation. He was filled with great anticipation for the ultimate golem that would be born in the future.
He said to Serena and Kaina, “When the golem is complete, I want you both to see it. I’ll put a lot of effort into the appearance too.”
The girls nodded with delight.
“Yes.”
After finishing their ordinary daily meal, they went about their respective routines.
Sephyl went to the magic training room, continuously training to reach the 6th Class Master level. El focused on creating the golem, immersing himself in his research.
Serena and Kaina engaged in their magical and swordsmanship training, respectively. They no longer received instruction from El, instead training on their own.
In this manner, one year passed.
“Hmm…”
Now a fifteen-year-old boy, El gazed at the completed ego that he had worked so hard on.
To create a golem, he required a tremendous amount of things.
First, he had to consider the Knight Golem.
The Knight Golem was a magical weapon controlled by humans.
It moved by the will of humans and didn’t possess self-awareness.
So, what El had in mind was to make a golem that could think and have self-awareness – a so-called ego golem or an unmanned Knight Golem.
However, creating an ego was extremely difficult. The most demanding mental magic was the 8th Class magic called “Ego Create.”
No matter how skilled El was, his current level was only a 6th Class Master. He couldn’t approach the 8th Class magic through normal means.
Therefore, what he considered was dark magic. Several dark magics dealt with the manipulation of one’s consciousness, and they provided the solution to El’s dilemma.
Among them, he added one more – Subjugation Mind, which was a magic that forced someone to submit.
El mixed these dark magics with the ego, creating the ego.
What El desired was not an intelligent ego. It could be passive, following his orders would be sufficient.
So, he collected the essential magic stone, “High-Level Mind Stone,” which was useful for gathering consciousness.
After several failures, he finally succeeded.
It was the result of the whole year he spent on creating the ego.
“Now that the ego is complete, it won’t take long to create the golem!”
El shouted in excitement.
The golem he intended to create would require the synthesis of thousands of magic arrays and hundreds of mana stones, intricately connected to create an organic whole.
However, El was confident in himself.
The original Knight Golem’s design was almost perfect, and the experimental golems were functioning excellently.
In addition to that, the magic arrays and mana stones that made it move like a human were added. Now, if mixed with the ego, the Knight Golem he desired would be complete.
El threw himself wholeheartedly into making the golem.
