Golden Mage - Chapter 50
Volume 2, Chapter 20
Until dinner time, there was still plenty of time. King Redolph planned to use that time to persuade El as much as possible to join his country.
How could El not understand King Redolph’s thoughts? His intentions were quite clear, so El smiled and said some vague words.
“Well… My life story doesn’t really matter, and there’s nothing particularly interesting to share.”
‘Is he trying to start a conversation with me or avoiding it?’
At first glance, it sounded like he didn’t want to talk because there was nothing to discuss. But when you felt the nuance of his words, it seemed like he might not have much to talk about.
‘He probably has nothing to talk about!’
King Redolph believed that. Considering El’s young age and his constant magical training in one place, it was understandable. He even wished to believe that.
“Haha! Then should I be the one to start the conversation? After all, storytelling is just one person speaking while the other responds.”
“That’s right.”
El made his assessment of King Redolph. The cryptic words he spoke earlier were probably meant to see how El would react. After hesitating for a moment, he made a decision and started speaking, showing his decisiveness.
‘He’s a king with determination. Just like the information says.’
According to the information, King Redolph was known to be extremely capable as a king, leading the Tolian Kingdom without any major issues. The only mistake he made was not pushing for the recognition of the legitimate prince, Prince Yudmion.
Anyway, that didn’t concern El. All he wanted to know was King Redolph’s character.
El and King Redolph exchanged various stories without a specific topic. The time spent in conversation was meant to get to know each other better. And through these conversations, they were gradually learning more about each other.
As they talked, King Redolph realized that El was a remarkable talent.
At such a young age, he became a 7th-class mage. With that achievement, he could have pursued noble status and desired beautiful women, but El showed restraint in his actions and spoke carefully with each word.
To exhibit such outstanding qualities!
King Redolph found himself increasingly enchanted by El.
“I must recruit him as a mage for our kingdom. I’ll accept everything he desires, if necessary.”
King Redolph clenched his fist secretly.
On the other hand, the more they talked, the more El liked King Redolph.
At first, he didn’t realize it, but over time, he became aware of his feelings.
King Redolph had no personal guards around him. Normally, a ruler would always be accompanied by close guards. However, there were no knights near King Redolph.
El understood that King Redolph had shown consideration for him.
Having a knight sitting in front of a magician during their meeting could be seen as a potential threat.
King Redolph took that into account. And now, El finally noticed it.
Ordinary people are creatures that can be easily touched by trivial things. El was also moved by King Redolph’s small but considerate gestures.
As his liking for King Redolph grew, El had the thought to reconsider his initial plan.
His initial plan was to gradually wear down King Redolph’s enthusiasm. Once King Redolph’s enthusiasm had diminished, he would agree to all of El’s conditions. That was the plan he had set.
El fell into deep thought. Eventually, he straightened up and looked at King Redolph.
In an instant, King Redolph’s expression tensed without even realizing it.
El’s mouth opened slowly.
“To tell you the truth, I had a guess about what you would say when I came here. The Tolian Kingdom, unlike any other powerful kingdom, lacks a Tower of Magic. Perhaps you wanted to recruit me to build a Tower of Magic within your kingdom. Am I wrong?”
“Hmm! That’s correct.”
In response to El’s straightforward question, King Redolph showed a slightly perplexed expression but nodded.
After a moment of confusion, he realized that this was an opportunity and spoke eagerly.
“I would very much like you to join our kingdom. This is not merely a king’s ambition to strengthen the kingdom. Every year, countless lives are lost due to the monsters pouring in from Monster Land. I sincerely hope that Elimis could come to our kingdom and prevent their unnecessary sacrifices.”
King Redolph’s words made El raise his head and look into King Redolph’s eyes.
How could he not be moved when a king cherished the lives of his people? The intense determination shining in King Redolph’s eyes touched El’s heart without mercy. And he made up his mind. He would settle here.
Although he was a king of a country, he cherished the lives of his people. El could feel his determination.
Eyes filled with unwavering determination. They were not the eyes of someone seeking personal desires. Such ambitions were concealed behind them. Most of his eyes were filled with concern and sorrow.
Countless monsters pouring in from Monster Land every year! As a king, how could he not feel sorrowful about it! King Redolph’s gaze shook El’s heart relentlessly. And he made a decision. He decided to stay in this place.
His initial plan was to gradually wear down King Redolph’s enthusiasm. Once King Redolph’s enthusiasm had diminished, he would agree to all of El’s conditions. That was the plan he had set.
El pondered for a moment. Then he nodded firmly, indicating his acceptance.
“I will do my best to help you revive the Tolian Kingdom with Your Majesty.”
The sun seemed to rise on King Redolph’s face.
He was so delighted that he jumped up from his seat and firmly grasped both of El’s hands.
Then he burst into laughter and said, “Hahaha! You have thought well! From now on, Elimis, I won’t spare any support to help you build the Tower of Magic. Please save our innocent citizens from the monsters pouring in every year!”
El nodded. If he decided to settle in the Tolian Kingdom, he wouldn’t just leave the monsters pouring in from Monster Land unchecked.
“That’s not a problem. To do that, I need some conditions. It hasn’t been long since I decided to join the kingdom, but it seems better to make this clear now. Is that okay?”
King Redolph readily nodded. Since this was a decision that had just been made, it would be best to conclude the matter right now.
“That’s right.”
With King Redolph’s approval, El began to speak about the conditions he had been contemplating.
