Golden Mage - Chapter 52
Volume 2, Chapter 22
“Evacuate all the elderly and women to the rear of the village! And all the able-bodied men, come forward to fight!”
Maider, the captain of Ken Village’s guards, yelled with a firm grip on his spear, making whale-like sounds.
Originally an aspiring knight, Maider was known as the only expert-level fighter in Ken Village. He had fled here to escape the overshadowing presence of his younger sister, Soyeongju, who surpassed him in talent and conduct.
Preferring the spear over the sword, Maider had settled in Ken Village five years ago, becoming a skilled intermediate expert in his late twenties. The faint blue hue on his spear instilled strong confidence in those who gathered to defend the village. As the only person capable of one-on-one combat with the trolls, he became the hope of the villagers.
“Come at me!”
With spear held high, Maider shouted as trolls rushed forward from the front, wielding heavy wooden clubs.
Ken Village had set up defensive fortifications on a slightly sloped hill. The entrance was narrow, designed to prevent multiple trolls from charging in at once.
Maider stood his ground at the narrow entrance, and Ora swung his spear alongside him.
Clang! Clang!
The clash between Ora’s spear and the trolls’ wooden clubs resonated with a loud noise.
The trolls wielded clubs made from dark soul-infused wood, possessing incredible strength surpassing most steel weapons. However, Ora’s spear skillfully deflected the attacks, creating opportunities for him to strike back.
“Watch out!”
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Maider’s spear moved gracefully, dividing the trolls and their attacks.
Lance fighting was rare on the Sardia Continent. Lances were longer than swords and were given mainly to conscripted soldiers due to their shorter training period.
But Maider didn’t think that way. He believed that with a longer lance, he could surpass any knight of the same level using a sword. He combined various knowledge to create his own style of spear technique.
It wasn’t just about thrusting. The longer length allowed for powerful slashing strikes, even more potent than with a sword. If utilized well, a lance could be even more effective than a sword.
Maider effortlessly fought the two trolls, both of whom he could handle without much trouble due to his training as an intermediate expert.
With his spear firmly grasped, Maider concentrated all his strength into it.
In an instant, a faint blue light enveloped his spear as it collided with the trolls’ wooden clubs.
Clank!
“Argh!”
He pushed back the two trolls, but one of them took the opportunity to strike with its club as Maider was about to thrust forward.
“Watch out!”
Spear! Slash! Spear!
Maider’s spear moved skillfully, parrying and countering the trolls’ attacks.
Around a hundred men shouted in unison, “Shoot them all!”
Arrows flew towards the two trolls.
Swish! Thud!
The targets were the two trolls, and with limited space, nearly a hundred arrows hit their mark.
“Kreeee!”
Both trolls let out agonizing screams. Despite their impressive regenerative abilities, the pain was unbearable.
“Now’s the chance!”
With determination in his eyes, Maider dashed forward, putting all his strength into the spear.
The blue light on his spear intensified as it clashed with the trolls’ wooden clubs.
Grrr!
“Curses!”
Maider’s attack was futile. He had already used up all his reserves of aura.
Now, the heavy club would strike him, and he would be doomed.
But just as Maider was about to give up, a savior appeared.
“Move aside!”
A woman’s voice was heard from behind him.
Maider instinctively stepped back, allowing a young woman to rush towards the troll.
Clad in faintly shimmering silver armor adorned with intricate runes, her red hair flowing beautifully as her longsword extended forward.
“Creeek!”
The troll, still dealing with its previous prey, emitted a mix of annoyance and anger when the woman intervened. It raised its massive club to strike back, but the woman’s sword moved at an explosive speed.
Her aura was even more brilliant than the one Maider had used earlier. It surpassed intermediate and reached the level of an advanced sword expert.
The woman’s sword struck the troll’s neck with frightening speed, and no matter how tough their skin was, it couldn’t withstand the force of the aura.
“Kreeee! Krarrgh!”
With a swift and powerful strike from the woman, the troll let out a scream as its entire body convulsed in pain.
However, the troll’s struggles gradually ceased, and it eventually collapsed to the ground.
Thud!
“Phew!”
Maider, who had been standing aside, was finally able to see the woman’s face. To his surprise, she looked no older than twenty. She wore an expression of determination and strength, resembling a goddess of war.
To reach the level of an advanced sword expert at such a young age! No, why would such a woman appear here?
As various questions crossed his mind, all eyes turned towards the woman with admiration, awe, and curiosity.
“Mission accomplished, my lord.”
My lord?
In an instant, all eyes shifted to one direction.
