Golden Mage - Chapter 84
Volume 3, Chapter 24
Upon El’s words, Kaina’s teary eyes finally brimmed with tears, and she sought refuge in El’s embrace. El gently wiped away her tears and spoke to Selpir.
“I’m ready to act decisively now. I’ll activate the barrier and unleash the Dark Fog. Mom, please keep an eye on the movements of the Kingdom and take good care of Serena.”
Selpir nodded in agreement.
“I will… Take care.”
Though El didn’t say it outright, Selpir sensed that El was about to embark on a perilous journey. To her, he was still just a child, no different from her own offspring.
She wanted to stop him, for he was her child, borne of her pain. In her eyes, he was still as young as any other kid.
But she couldn’t stop him. El was already grown-up. He was determined to stand against the powerful Kingdom for the sake of his beloved. Witnessing El risking everything to protect one woman made her realize once again that he had outgrown her embrace.
“Thank you, always,” El smiled back at Selpir and then turned to look at Kaina.
“I’ll leave the tower for a while now. If there’s anything urgent, call for me.”
“Sure, we believe in you,” reassured Selpir.
With a sense of trust in her words, El gave a faint smile and began casting his magic. Soon, the magic stone placed under his feet started emitting a deep mana. As El finished casting all the spells, he shouted the incantation.
“Teleport!”
As the magic unfolded, a bright white light erupted. In an instant, El’s figure vanished as if engulfed by the light.
Pop!
The light disappeared, and El’s appearance vanished instantly. Worried, Selpir murmured with a concerned tone.
“Please be safe…”
Not far from the Kingdom’s capital, a pure white light emerged, creating a humanoid figure.
Hovering in mid-air, the golden-haired mage looked down at the Kingdom’s capital in the distance and mumbled to himself.
“So, this is the Kingdom’s capital…”
The person who teleported to the capital was none other than El. Wearing glasses, El gazed down at the Kingdom’s capital.
Through his Hawk Eye inscribed on the glasses, the panoramic view of the capital came into focus.
The capital exuded a devout atmosphere, as it was a place where the followers resided. Despite being home to numerous people, there was not a single piece of trash on the streets, nor any slums or alleys. Moreover, even though a looming war was certain, the people’s faces showed no signs of worry.
“Indeed… this must be the country blessed by the gods…”
Though not everyone looked happy, the absence of worry on their faces indicated how pleasant it must be to live in the Kingdom.
Seeing this aspect, El’s anger towards the Kingdom surged.
It might be because he doesn’t believe in their gods. However, he couldn’t fathom their willingness to wage a war that could cost tens of thousands of lives just to retrieve one Saintess. From El’s perspective, it was incomprehensible that they would engage in such a deadly conflict for the sake of one woman.
Of course, it was a matter of differing values, but El had no intention of changing his own beliefs. For him, the happiness of the people around him and his own happiness were the most precious things.
He couldn’t fathom how the majority of people could be happy just because Serena was going away.
“I won’t impose my thoughts on them. But I can’t understand why they are so willing to engage in a war that could potentially sacrifice countless lives just to follow the words of their gods.”
Adjusting his glasses, El muttered. Then, his magical platform gently floated up as he made his way towards the heart of the Kingdom’s capital, the Archbishop’s residence.
“Ah! They’re getting ready for war, yet it’s so peaceful here.”
As El entered the residence, a guard standing at the entrance questioned him.
“Stop! This is the residence of the Archbishop, where he resides. Do you have business with the Archbishop?”
The guard tried to be polite since the newcomer looked like a mage, but when El responded casually, they couldn’t help but frown.
“Do I have to say that I came to see the Archbishop?”
Naturally, it was El who had teleported to the capital. With a nonchalant expression, El looked at the guard blocking his way. Then, he casually said:
“I’ve come to meet the Pope, shall we say?”
Indeed, it was El who had teleported to the capital. Wearing a robe with a hint of gold, he exuded a mysterious aura. As he approached the Archbishop’s residence, the guards could see him.
“….”
Tension filled the air as the guards quickly donned their battle gear and rushed towards the entrance of the Archbishop’s residence. And there, they saw him. The imposing golden golem and the mage standing on its shoulder. The ringing of an emergency bell echoed within the residence. Each peal signified the presence of intruders within the Archbishop’s residence.
“What’s going on?”
The Knights guarding the residence quickly donned their armor and rushed towards the entrance to confront the intruders. They could see him now—a golden-haired mage perched on the mighty Golden Knight.
“Stop right there! Who are you? How dare you trespass in this sacred place of the Divine Goddess!”
El glanced at the agitated Knight who confronted him and replied with a hint of sarcasm.
“Do you want me to say I came to meet the Pope?”
Just as expected, the senior Knight couldn’t hold back and struck at El.
“You impudent fool! How dare you speak in such a manner in the presence of the Pope, who carries out the will of the Divine Goddess!”
El deftly dodged the attack. The Knights, who had no intention of holding back from the beginning, surrounded the Golden Knight with their radiant blessings ready to take on El and the Golden Knight.
El had unsealed the Golden Knight from the very start of the battle. He didn’t want to leave any reserve for the powerful Kingdom, a nation that could rival the Empire. He had resolved to give his all in this battle, without any restraint.
Clang!
As the Golden Sword clashed with the hammers wielded by the Knights, their weapons shattered like glass.
