Golden Mage - Chapter 9
Volume 1, Episode 9
El decided to reveal a bit of his abilities, thinking that he could fulfill his mother’s expectations all at once.
“I’ll reveal my abilities a little bit. It might be a bit troublesome, but I can meet Mom’s expectations in one go.”
With this decision, his previously pounding heart suddenly calmed down.
El smiled confidently, looking self-assured.
When Gedrik noticed the expression on El’s face, he became puzzled. El took a step forward and spoke with a pure and innocent face.
“Energy Bolt? I can cast that too, you know?”
It was a simple sentence, but it caused a huge wave in the tranquil atmosphere.
“What? Is that true?”
Gedrik turned his gaze from Cilfir to El, surprised by his words.
Cilfir’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at El. But the emotion in her eyes was not trust; it was doubt.
Think about it. A twelve-year-old boy being able to cast Energy Bolt would already be considered a genius in the current continent.
Even Gedrik, who was displaying the power of a 1st-class master, could easily be called a prodigy. But now, suddenly, a seven-year-old boy was claiming that he could do it too?
Naturally, no one would believe him.
As Cilfir’s eyes filled with doubt, she looked at El with a sad expression, thinking that he was lying to impress her.
She felt sorry for doubting him in the first place.
“Elly, Mom is sorry. But there’s no need to lie, right? Our good Elly doesn’t tell lies, right?”
Her words struck El’s heart deeply.
And to Gedrik, it seemed more like an act. Cilfir looked at El apologetically, realizing that her doubt stemmed from her own shortcomings.

Her words struck El’s heart deeply.
And to Gedrik, it seemed more like an act. Cilfir looked at El apologetically, realizing that her doubt stemmed from her own shortcomings.
El took another step forward. He turned his gaze towards Cilfir.
But the eyes he used to look at her were not the usual innocent and bright ones. Instead, they were filled with determination and a deep sense of purpose.
El said to Cilfir, “Mom, I’m not lying. Look at me and see how well I’ve grown. If you want, I’ll learn all the riches of the world, and if you want, I’ll learn all the magic of the world.”
At that moment, Cilfir felt El’s words were more truthful and praiseworthy than anything else. She felt proud of her son, and he was someone she could rely on without a doubt.
But to Gedrik, who had never felt El’s magic, it was hard to gauge the true meaning behind El’s words.
Smiling brightly, El looked at Cilfir. His eyes were back to their usual innocent and bright light.
And El spoke to Cilfir, “Mom, your son has grown up splendidly. So there’s no need for me to bow down to anyone or have any reason to do so. Believe in me. I am your one and only son in this world. If you wish, I’ll learn all the riches of the world, and if you wish, I’ll learn all the magic of the world.”
In this moment, Cilfir felt El’s words were more truthful and praiseworthy than anything else. She felt proud of her son, and he was someone she could rely on without a doubt.
But to Gedrik, who had never felt El’s magic, it was hard to gauge the true meaning behind El’s words.
El smiled at Cilfir, who was still amazed by the events. His gaze, full of determination, flickered with a deep blue light, indicating a profound understanding of magic.
And then, in a soft voice, El cast a spell.
“Energy Bolt.”
In response to El’s words, an Energy Bolt formed in front of him.
A sphere of white light with intense heat, larger than Gedrik’s Energy Bolt, appeared. It was an Energy Bolt that one could only cast when reaching 1st-class mastery.
Seeing this, Betlrock and Cilfir opened their mouths in astonishment.
A 1st-class master like Gedrik might not have realized it, but those at a higher level, like Betlrock and Cilfir, understood the significance of El’s magic.
“Unbelievable!”
Betlrock trembled with his hand pointing towards the Energy Bolt created by El.
It was simply unbelievable.
Even Cilfir was in a state of disbelief. She looked at the Energy Bolt created by El, which was more than twice the size of Gedrik’s, with a shocked expression.
“Mom, I’m not lying. Look at this. And see how well your son has grown.”
“Umm…”
Almost mesmerized, Cilfir unconsciously nodded. When she realized what she had done, she looked at El with amazement.
Between El’s small hands, mana swirled vigorously. It was not just mana swirling; it was the astonishing speed at which the mana was arranged that gave the impression of mana surging wildly.
But it wasn’t mana surging chaotically; it was arranged with such speed that it felt like a torrent of mana.
Even Betlrock, a 5th-class master, was staring at El with astonished eyes.
A mere seven-year-old kid!
El had no need to doubt any longer. He had come to understand that Cilfir felt sorry for doubting him and had not been paying proper attention to him all this time, thanks to Gedrik’s appearance as a genius magician.
El took another step forward. And then he looked at Cilfir.
His eyes were no longer the innocent and bright ones that Cilfir had known. Instead, they were filled with unwavering determination, and a deep azure brilliance flickered subtly in his eyes.
El spoke to Cilfir, “Mom, I’m not lying. Look at me and see how well I’ve grown. If you want, I’ll learn all the riches of the world, and if you want, I’ll learn all the magic of the world.”
Cilfir felt El’s words resonated deep within her heart and felt proud to have such a son.
“Elly, I’m sorry….”
Feeling overwhelmed by the strange and fantastical situation, the office fell silent for a moment.
But that silence was short-lived. Suddenly, the office door swung open with a bang. A small, somewhat shabby-looking old man in his early seventies entered.
Despite his disheveled appearance, his eyes gleamed with intensity.
“Who’s there? Who just cast a spell here?”
As the old man’s voice echoed, Betlrock’s gaze immediately turned towards El.
And then, the old man’s gaze shifted to El as well.
The moment the old man’s gaze fell on El, El’s heart skipped a beat.
It wasn’t because El had a special ability to detect others’ power. It was because of the keen perception honed through his training, allowing him to sense the flow of mana around the old man, as well as the overall outline of mana gathered within his body.
“He has an incredible amount of mana. Considering the information I’ve read in the books and my own perception, this old man is a 7th-class mage. He’s an incredibly powerful mage.”
As El evaluated the old man, the old man’s gaze was fixed on El’s eyes.
“You’re an odd one. You have eyes that don’t match your age.”
El’s heart skipped a beat again, but no one noticed.
El smiled innocently, feigning ignorance.
“What do you mean? I have eyes that don’t match my age?”
His response seemed natural, and the old man raised an eyebrow.
Without caring about El’s reaction, the old man forcefully grabbed both El and Cilfir by the arm.
“What are you doing?” Cilfir asked, surprised.
“Hey?”
Ignoring their reactions, the old man led them both, pulling them forcefully.
“Come with me for a moment. We have something to talk about.”
Without waiting for their consent, the old man led them away with his strong grip.
As the old man disappeared, Betlrock let out a deep sigh.
“Damn it! It was just a fish I caught, and now this happened…”
Unlike Betlrock, who had failed to capture Cilfir, Gedrik’s eyes were burning with excitement. The appearance of El had dealt a heavy blow to his pride as a prodigy.
Gedrik determined that he would become an even more powerful mage next time. He refused to be outdone.
