Helmut: The Forsaken Child - Chapter 66
# 66
Helmut
Episode 66
Helmut asked a question.
“Isn’t there anything else we need to prepare for the remaining month?”
I wasn’t talking about prior learning or swordsmanship training. Because that’s what Helmut does every day. Mainly the latter.
“Yes, you will be assigned a dorm room soon, but you don’t have much to pack, so there is nothing to prepare. “I think it would be a good idea to buy academy uniforms after you are assigned a dormitory room.”
“Good for you.”
Ethan asked because the nuance in those words was strange.
“What are you going to do?”
“There is a mercenary guild in Baden, right?”
“yes.”
no way. Ethan’s pupils dilated.
“I plan to work as a mercenary. “It would be better to make money when you are free.”
This is Helmut, who had a busy daily life in the Forest of Pahe. Even if I tried something new, it couldn’t be like playing or being lazy. It was a bit sore. Finding something useful to do was an ingrained habit. So Helmut decided to use his mercenary status.
“Running without stopping is fine, but working as a mercenary? “What if I get hurt before I even enter the academy?”
“Me? “I’m not hurt.”
Helmut spoke confidently. The thing that filled his dark eyes was arrogance. The arrogance that there is no one here who can compete with him. He is the one who killed two second-rate mercenaries. Is it possible to get hurt because of a request from Baden? Even if you get hurt, with his resilience, you will get better quickly.
But Ethan was a nobleman. He couldn’t just let the 15-year-old boy under his care do difficult work to make money. He looked for a retort.
“What kind of requests can I do in a month?”
“They told me to do something. Let’s find out what quests can be done in Baden. “If you don’t have something like that, it can’t be helped.”
“If you need money, I can support you. “I am your guardian.”
“I have money too. “It’s not enough.”
I could feel the line in the sharp answer. Although he depended on Ethan, Helmut was independent from him. Seek help to a minimum. That’s not a bad thing. It was sad rather than unpleasant or disappointing. People don’t live alone. I thought I had opened my mind a bit while staying at the Kudrow Mansion, but I felt some regret. Ethan sighed.
‘You look like a wild beast roaming alone. ‘I wonder if I can open my heart to someone.’
“Yes, then. But if you take on a request, you must tell me.”
He is the benefactor’s disciple. Ethan planned to support Helmut wholeheartedly. This little boy who doesn’t even know the day he was born.
The next day, Helmut went to the blacksmith shop and found the sword sheath. The scabbard, which was old, worn and shabby, was transformed overnight to the point where it was unrecognizable. The black painted surface was shiny and the carved patterns were filled with gold, making it look luxurious.
“Are you satisfied?”
The blacksmith smiled as if he was satisfied with his work, and Helmut nodded, pulling out the sword from the wooden scabbard and placing it in a new scabbard.
The next place he visited was the mercenary guild. Yesterday, I found it at the edge of a downtown area and passed by it. The mercenary guild was quite crowded. It was time for students to return to the academy. After completing their escort mission, the mercenaries left Baden to seek new requests.
“Welcome. Do you want to make a request?”
A boy around Helmut’s age was guarding the reception desk and looked at him with wide eyes.
‘Which sword family are you from? ‘Your eyes are a bit harsh.’
There are times when luxurious accessories determine a person’s dignity. Helmut had an aristocratic appearance, but his clothes were also luxurious. In addition, he wore a gold-plated sword sheath on his waist, so he could not be seen as a commoner.
“I’m trying to take on a request.”
“yes yes? “Are you a mercenary?”
“okay.”
“Then please stand in line on the side.”
A group of mercenaries looked at Helmut, who was standing in line behind him, quizzically. No matter how you look at it, that’s a client, not a mercenary? But no one bothered to talk to Helmut. Mercenaries were generally indifferent to others. Especially in the mercenary guild, all you have to do is take the request and go.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Helmut’s turn came. The boy from earlier greeted Helmut.
“Level 3 mercenary Helmut.”
“You are a member of the Face Mercenary Group.”
I have only once taken on a request from the Face Mercenaries, but I am putting my membership to good use. Anyone other than those who participated in the request would not be able to recognize him, even if they were members of the same Face mercenary group. Helmut nodded slowly.
“What kind of request do you want? “There are a lot of requests coming in these days.”
“You can’t go far from Baden. A quest that can be done in Baden if possible and can be completed within a month with a large reward. I don’t care if it’s dangerous. “The bigger the reward, the better.”
Ethan would be opposed to leaving Baden. Helmut decided to show his greed for money even if the request was a bit difficult. It will cost some money to buy various things while moving into the dormitory.
Laughter erupted from behind. It was a sound made by the mercenaries lined up behind. They thought that the noble master who happened to be a mercenary was greedy.
“You’re very specific. “I don’t know if there is such a request, but I will look into it.”
The boy, who was shuffling through the documents in front of him, soon opened his mouth again.
“There are some requests that can be done in Baden, but they are simple requests that a level 4 mercenary can do. There is just one big reward. “It’s a bit of a difficult request.”
‘What is difficult and not dangerous?’
Helmut tilted his head.
“Explain.”
“Uh, so this is a request from Greta Academy at the end of last year. No one has solved it so far. So, what kind of request is this…”
After hearing the boy’s explanation, Helmut nodded.
“I’ll take that.”
“yes? But if you fail, there is no reward. There is also a record of failed requests. “The pay is good, but that’s why no one wants to take on the job.”
“I’ll take it.”
“yes yes. Well then… I’ll file it. The deadline is 15 days. “If you would like to extend the deadline or give up on the request, please come here again.”
Helmut nodded, took the documents handed over by the receptionist, and left the place.
‘It’s a request from Greta Academy.’
Helmut thought about the contents of the request the receptionist had mentioned. It is said that strange sounds and strange figures appear late at night at Greta Academy. Obviously not a person. It has never harmed anyone, but several people have seen it. Rumors were also rampant that it was a ghost.
Instructors and curious wizards tried to find out the identity of something, but they did not even think about appearing in front of those who had a purpose. I couldn’t keep clinging to it, so I turned off my attention one by one, but the strange beings still continued to appear. It was also true that it was uncomfortable to just leave it alone. It had to be resolved.
Greta Academy decided to comfortably leave this troublesome problem to the mercenary guild. They decided that it was not an issue that would take away the attention of students who should be concentrating on their studies. They offered a fairly large request fee, saying they wanted to resolve this problem before the start of school as much as possible. Finding out the identity of that strange entity or eliminating it.
‘3000 marks. ‘It’s okay.’
Although I received an additional amount, 3,000 marks was quite a large amount considering that Xenia’s escort request was originally only 800 marks. It seems that the request fee was set generously because there is no promise that it will be resolved and there is no way to resolve it. It was a kind of enigmatic request. This is not a problem that can be solved simply by having excellent swordsmanship skills. However, there was one reason why Helmut took on a request that could not be guaranteed to make him money.
‘They give you a lot of money. And I think it’ll be fun.’
The appearance of a strange being. It was tempting. I’m tired of escorts and convoy requests. Standing aloof and protecting someone is also something you have aptitude for. Looking at the documents the receptionist was handing over, I saw that the only requests worth doing in Baden were to be a swordsman practice partner for a certain master or to find a runaway cat. Rather than doing something like that, it would have been better to wander around Greta Academy. After all, in a month he will be a student in the swordsmanship department at Greta Academy.
‘First of all, I said it was 15 days.’
I planned to work hard to solve the request for 15 days and if it didn’t work out, I would find something else to do. It’s a large amount, so it’s not a bad idea to try it. There was nothing else to do for the time being anyway. The document the receptionist received contained an outline of the incident, including testimony from eyewitnesses. Helmut fully read the contents and headed straight to Greta Academy.
However, it was when we reached the entrance to the academy. A similar thing happened to Helmut a few days ago. No, the situation was worse. Because the number of opponents has increased. Five girls appeared from nowhere, their eyes lit up, and surrounded Helmut. The guard over there looked blankly at Helmut.
‘He’s a popular guy.’
They seem to think they are interacting with female students. He soon lost interest in Helmut. It was unfortunate for Helmut. My eyebrows furrow.
‘What the hell is this?’
I couldn’t just enter the academy without even getting my admission card yet. You have to go through that road to get through… I don’t think these girls will allow me to go through the process of showing my documents. I don’t want you to find out about the request and interfere with it.
Helmut asked as if he was annoyed.
“what?”
The girls covered their mouths with their hands and made a fuss.
“Oh, look at the way you talk!”
“Look at those eyes!”
“It’s rough!”
“It’s violent!”
“How rude!”
In an instant, Helmut was almost reduced to a libertine. I only said one thing, but you can criticize me like this? Rather than being angry, Helmut felt dumbfounded.
‘So is this a fight?’
It’s not only unfamiliar but also novel. So I wasn’t angry. My ears just sting from the chattering noise. They soon began to interrogate in earnest.
“What’s your relationship with Area?”
“I heard you were walking around the shopping district with Area a while ago!”
“After receiving tutoring and guidance, what on earth did you do to him?”
What have you done? What’s happening to you right now is you. I was shocked. Area’s followers gave him a different feeling. In a bad way. That was a tone of voice that threatened to exploit Area’s weakness. Of course, Helmut had the intention to do so. It ended well, though.
Helmut was rarely surprised or embarrassed. Even when faced with unexpected situations, he was always calm. But I had no idea how to react to this group of non-ideal followers. He thought about a way.
‘If you knock him down…’
he is eliminated. You will be suspended before even attending the academy.
‘If I kill him…’
Even if he secretly lures him to death, he probably has more than one follower of Area. Are you trying to become the rare serial killer in Baden? leaving out.
As I was thinking about it, a thought occurred to me like a lightning bolt.
‘I told you not to pretend to know.’
Helmut asked with an expressionless face.
“Who is Area?”
“It’s amazing! “Where are you being so pretentious now!”
“It’s not ‘I don’t know Alea’, it’s ‘Who is Alea?’”
“Are you saying you don’t know Areea, the most dazzlingly beautiful and noble person in this academy?”
“Do you think something like that is possible?”
‘…that tidyer.’
Area said that the reason they behaved like that was because of their magic power, but at this level, it seems more appropriate to call it a curse rather than magic power. A curse of low intelligence. Do these symptoms appear when you are attracted to someone? I was curious, but it was also annoying. Helmut opened his mouth with a cold expression.
“I have nothing to do with that area. Move.”
The girls’ quick glances were eerie. Enough to make them stop for a moment.
Then I heard someone’s voice.
