I Became a Genius Commander at the Academy - Chapter 11
EP.11
A month has passed since then.
During that time, I personally recalled how the Rhineland front worked in the novel and tried to devise strategies for various cases.
Also, like last time, he was looking for an opportunity to make a major achievement and performed quite a bit at the company level.
I had the opportunity to participate in five battles, and each time I participated, achievements big and small were accumulated.
A single enemy company is annihilated, two platoons are destroyed, and a crisis is prevented by supporting another friendly company that is being pushed back by the enemy.
Thanks to our outstanding performance, the officers except me were confirmed to be promoted one rank at a time when the war ended, regardless of victory or defeat.
The company commander has also received advice from the division’s operational staff that if he continues to work on the Rhineland front, he will be able to overcome the barrier of being a senior officer and be promoted to major.
If you are promoted to major and discharged from the military, you will be given the title of knight, but only for the time, and will be able to receive lifelong nobility treatment and a pension for long service.
So, before I knew it, the company commander trusted me to the point where he believed me even if I told him to make soybean paste soup with sweet red beans.
Thanks to that, although I had the lowest rank, I rose to the level next to the company commander in terms of status.
If the company I was assigned to, a student platoon leader from a commoner orphan, had been a unit made up of nobles only.
No matter how much effort he made, it would have been difficult to establish such a strong position because of his background.
It was the greatest luck for me to be assigned to a unit with only officers who had been senior officers.
So, I hope it continues like this in the future.
As if to shatter my trivial wishes in an instant, the company commander appeared in front of the officers with a rotten expression on his face, holding a small container of beer and a glass in both hands.
Damn, it’s been a while since I didn’t work and the mood was good today, but looking at that face, I think I brought some shitty news.
“What’s going on, loyal company commander?”
When I and the other officers greeted me like this, the company commander always greeted me with a big smile these days, but he still responded with a crumpled expression, as if to prove that my prediction was correct.
“I received word from the battalion commander that the Black Lion mercenaries have come to the French Republic to provide support.”
At those terrible words, the faces of all the officers except me turned pale.
That’s because the Black Lion Mercenary Corps was one of the best mercenary groups that made a name for itself not only in the Reich Empire and Francois Republic but also throughout the Europa Continent.
This is because it was a huge enemy army, numbering over 2,000 people.
And although they may not know it, the fact that the Reich Imperial Army, which had the upper hand on the Rhineland front in the original novel, was defeated was also caused by the Francois Republic’s introduction of the Black Lion mercenaries.
When the platoon commanders, including me, tried to complain about this situation, the company commander covered our mouths and continued talking.
“Therefore, having achieved many achievements so far, I have been appointed as the 1st company commander and unit commander of the 4th Battalion of the 3rd Regiment, and your affiliations have changed along with me.”
I don’t know how it is in Korea, but here, the 1st platoon commander is a bit more dedicated than other platoon commanders in the same company, and in the Imperial Army, among unit commanders, the 1st company commander and the 1st battalion commander tend to be considered important positions.
So, on the surface, it may be accepted as an honorary award from the company commander.
Considering our actions so far and the current war situation, it is very likely that the newly deployed battalion will be deployed in a battalion with somewhat lower combat capabilities even if the number of soldiers meets the battalion size.
Because the battalion is in shambles, I think they plan to reorganize a battalion around our highly capable company and use it for all their strength.
The platoon commanders must have thought the same thing and complained in angry voices.
“Isn’t this too much? From what I heard from a guy I cared about like a younger brother, the 4th Battalion of the 3rd Regiment is in shambles because a lot of experienced officers died in the battle a few days ago.”
“Why does the division commander, the more we achieve results, the more shitty tasks he throws at our company?”
“Deus, why are you giving us this fucking job?”
I really wanted to follow them and complain, but the situation doesn’t change even if I complain.
Instead, we must devise a way to maintain the battalion’s combat power without causing major damage to everyone in the company, including me.
Having set up countless mock operations helped, I was able to come up with a pretty good strategy in an instant.
So, relying on my increased status based on my achievements so far, I asked the company commander on behalf of the other officers.
“What do you plan to do then, Company Commander?”
It may have seemed arrogant, but it was a necessary question, so the company commander sighed and answered.
“Major Blancia asked us to stand at the vanguard and play a central role in the battalion attack. Although I agree with what the battalion commander said. Do other platoon leaders have any opinions?”
When the company commander’s question was asked, the other platoon leaders only looked as if they were worried and were unable to give any answers.
“I would like to suggest something to Ensign Jaeger, Company Commander.”
“Tell me.”
“First of all, I am opposed to taking on the role of the 4th Battalion’s vanguard company.”
When I said that, the officers, including the company commander, looked at me and asked, ‘Did he mishear what I said?’ ‘I said he was doing well. Is this guy finally crazy?’ I looked at him with that expression.
That’s probably true, no matter how much I have risen to the level of deputy company commander, there is a gap of more than two ranks and about 10 years between the company commander and me.
Objecting to such a person’s words, even if not protesting, would mean either that he is crazy or that he has made a very great determination.
I have enough evidence in my head to make them understand.
“Think about it. Certainly, if we are at the forefront of the initial fierce battle, we will be able to deal with a similar number of enemies without difficulty. However, if we stand in the vanguard, no matter what the situation is, we will momentarily face forces that outnumber us and must receive support from other companies in the rear.”
In fact, the reason it was possible to annihilate the Vallière Battalion last time was because there were other units supporting our company, which was charging with fierce force.
So, all units, except those fighting in the vanguard, always have reserve units or troops that can provide support.
“But according to what the company commander said, isn’t it true that we can’t trust the troops coming for support when we are excitingly driving out the enemy at the vanguard? If so, the battle will definitely go in our favor in the early stages of the battle. “Our company will not receive support at a critical moment, so there is a high possibility that it will suffer significant damage due to its reduced ability to sustain combat.”
Moreover, even though our regiment and battalion have changed, our company is a unit that is attracting attention not only from our allies but also from the enemy, thanks to its name as the company that cut off the enemy’s battalion commander’s head.
If such a unit were to fight at the vanguard, other officers of the Francois Republic would recognize us and try to repel us and earn a brilliant performance.
The battle will become more intense, and troops and soldiers will be depleted quickly.
“Besides, isn’t it difficult to expect a newly reorganized unit to fight and do its part when the company commander or platoon leader is killed? Therefore, even if the initial attrition of other units acting as the vanguard is a bit severe, we must remain in reserve and go out to support units that are being pushed back by the enemy.”
If an ace company like ours decides to participate in the war as a reserve force rather than as a vanguard, we may be criticized for lacking courage and courage.
It is a better choice than taking the lead and losing your company due to incompetent soldiers from other battalions who cannot provide sufficient support when support is needed.
Unlike modern times, the reserve forces of this era are located in the relatively safe rear, but they play an important role in determining the outcome of the war as much as the vanguard, so we can change the flow of the battlefield.
Things like supporting defeated troops or exploiting the enemy’s loopholes.
The company commander had a slightly crumpled expression, perhaps because he was a little annoyed that his opinion was opposed from the front.
He sighed and said, as if he realized that if he did not follow my opinion, it could cause trouble not only to our company but also to the entire battalion.
“I will report to the battalion commander that our unit will act as a reserve unit behind the remaining three companies.”
**
And the next day.
As agreed, our company took on the role of a reserve unit in the newly deployed battalion and participated in the event.
Until now, I had always fought in the vanguard or in the second line right behind the vanguard, so when the war started, my ears were filled with shouts and screams, but today is different.
In the midst of the loud noise coming from a distance, I could only occasionally hear the correct pronunciation of what someone with a good voice was shouting.
“You dirty Francois! “If you die here, I’ll stuff a snail in your ear!”
“I’ll make you a woman, so just touch my crotch!” “I’ll make you a eunuch!”
“Fuck you guys, it hurts so bad!”
So many allies and enemies died in front of us, but we, the reserve unit, just watched from outside the whirlpool.
Since one of the missions of the reserve unit is to reserve strength until an important moment comes, it is natural and no one will say anything.
Around that time I felt a little sorry.
The company commander spoke loudly, pointing ahead.
“This is the battalion commander’s order! “Our 4th Company is now going out to support the 1st Company fighting in front!”
Our unit’s battle began in earnest.
