I Became a Genius Commander at the Academy - Chapter 13
EP.13
Is it because I have not had a single failed record of suggesting an operation so far?
The battalion commander looked at me with eyes full of interest and said.
“Okay, but since the situation is like this, just keep the main point as short as possible.”
“We must immediately lead our troops to support the next battalion caught in the enemy’s decoy operation. It would be nice to let a student platoon leader who violated military orders die. If things continue like this, our division will suffer irreparable damage.”
The logic I’m talking about may sound like I’m arguing that we should save the assholes from trolling during team fights in FPS games.
Therefore, in a game like this, ‘Just let the troll die, respawn, and then join it.’ It can be argued lightly.
In a real battle, not only can a damaged battalion not be revived, but the morale of the soldiers who see their allies being treated like that will plummet.
Furthermore, as the enemy kills our allies, our power decreases.
To put it dramatically, a match where two enemies are pitted against two allies turns into a 2-on-1 match when one troll dies, and victory is far from possible.
The battalion commander must have understood that, too, as he let out a deep sigh and fell into deep thought.
I spoke in an appeal to show that I had no room for such things.
“The enemy has taken quite a bit of damage to lure us in as bait, so it will take some time to regroup. Therefore, there is a chance of victory if you kill the momentum of the enemy battalion by throwing magic and arrows at the enemy battalion that is unilaterally pushing the friendly battalion and launch a simultaneous attack.”
“I don’t think it’s wrong… It’s big…”
Looking at the way he slurred his words, I thought he was telling me what would happen to him if he followed my strategy.
Even in this situation, as a soldier hoping for promotions and rewards, it’s unsightly to see him considering personal interests, but he can’t help it when his superiors tell him to do so.
“If you save another battalion that was on the verge of annihilation due to the arbitrary actions of a student platoon leader, I, who suggested this operation, may be awarded the Silver Cross 1st Class. But wasn’t it the battalion commander who recognized the necessity of this operation and led it? So, I think I can aim for the Gold Cross Medal 2nd class and the Friendly Salvation Medal.”
After saying that, our battalion commander asked with a satisfied expression.
“Okay, I’ll follow your suggestion. “It is within my authority to move units to save other battalions.”
“thank you. Additionally, please send a messenger to the division commander and request that he provide the same support to the isolated battalion over there. Student platoon leaders who disobey orders can later be beheaded or punished in an appropriate manner. “What is the crime of these poor platoon members?”
“I think the soldiers have already had enough rest, so stop talking and get ready to go. This time, your company will be at the forefront.”
**
5 minutes after the conversation with the battalion commander ended.
The members of our company, including myself, stood at the vanguard of the battalion, following the orders of the battalion commander, waiting for the order to charge.
Meanwhile, the company commander scolded me and spoke in a voice mixed with dissatisfaction and joking.
“The mandarin bastard is now moving from company commander to battalion commander. I couldn’t even imagine something like that when I was young. After all, the person who received the Silver Cross, 2nd class, is of a different rank.”
Although he looks displeased, he is only grumbling, so it seems like he is trying to control tension and fear by telling a joke to the troops before a dangerous charge.
So I laughed and said, thinking that a joke is a joke.
“Please forgive me. Instead, didn’t you give the company commander and other platoon commanders a first-grade promotion?”
“If it weren’t for that, would I be smiling and talking to you like this right now? They’ll probably tell you to go back to the barracks with your shins cracked and repeat “I’m dead.” But the soldiers are having a hard time because of you. “Is something coming back?”
At those words, I looked at the company members and spoke as loudly as possible.
“I’m sorry for making you participate in an unreasonable operation! Instead, once this operation is over, the battalion commander will evaluate you favorably, so your promotion will be faster! Then, the discharge will be faster, so give me a little strength!”
The soldiers who watched my performance for a month and fought with me on the battlefield gave a whoop and laughed loudly in response.
“Platoon Commander Jaeger promised us a quick discharge!”
“For the glory of the Empire! For a future where I can go home and rest comfortably while touching my fiancé’s chest!”
“That damn thing is so vulgar and delicious!”
After revitalizing the company, a signal was sent to the entire division to link up and support the battalions that had been caught in the decoy operation.
At the same time, a huge trumpet and drum sound came from behind, and arrows and magic flew towards the enemy from behind.
Because the enemy battalion was attacked from a distance from an unexpected direction, those who had been going with the flow and preying on our battalion began to hesitate.
As a result, our battalion, which had been caught up in the decoy operation, regained some of its momentum and began to respond, breaking away from the unilateral situation of being pushed back.
“All company, charge! Let’s go rescue those who have been fooled by the enemy and are wandering around foolishly! “Have a platoon of Jaegers at the forefront!”
As soon as those words were spoken, our company rushed towards the enemy at a fast pace of about 10 kilometers per hour.
The company commander gave the order just before our and the enemy units collided.
“Wizards, only target those in front of the Jaeger platoon! “The Jaeger platoon will take the lead and charge, so the rest of the platoon will support the second lieutenant!”
As soon as those words were finished, a fireball the size of my face flew out and burned the enemy soldiers right in front of our platoon.
Thanks to this, our platoon was able to rush into the enemy camp without encountering almost any resistance from the enemy.
Thanks to the company commander, our platoon was able to charge comfortably from the beginning this time.
Also, since ancient times, it has been said that a good start is half the battle, so if you can perform well from the first charge, it is obvious that you will win the battlefield without even looking at the rest.
“Let’s repay the company commander for his generous support! Prepare for tactic number 3, which you learned during Jaeger Platoon training! “All at once, we break their momentum!”
The soldiers in my platoon confirmed the instructions, grasped the back of their polearms with both hands, and extended their polearms as far forward as possible.
And he took advantage of the opportunity while the soldiers of the enemy battalion were still organizing their formation.
Without hesitation, they charged forward with their spears raised like a runaway tank.
In a normal situation, if you use this tactic, it would be perfect to get blocked by the enemy’s long spear and have a hole in your body.
A spear soldier is a threat when he is keeping the enemy in check with the right attitude, not when he is overpowering and not even thinking about firing his spear properly.
Finally, just before the spear pierced the enemy’s body, the soldiers of the Jaeger Platoon increased their speed and shouted to intimidate them.
“I’m jealous of nobles eating snails, so kill them by hitting snails in their ear holes!”
“Show me what a real man is!”
“Let’s kill them all!!”
And our platoon’s long spear was aimed precisely at the torso of an enemy soldier who was not properly armored and pierced through it.
Nearly 10 enemy soldiers died painfully at once, unconsciously closing the holes in their bodies with their hands.
Without missing the opportunity, I put down my long spear, drew out the sword at my waist, and killed the soldiers in awkward positions where the spear could not easily reach.
I wanted to cut down and kill all the enemy soldiers and use this momentum to find the battalion commander and cut off his head like last time to receive the Silver Cross 1st Class… but when I
turned to the side, I saw the reserve battalion of the enemy soldiers coming for support slowly approaching our side. This caught my eye.
At that timing, the battalion commander sent a signal for our battalion to retreat and fight the reserve battalion approaching from the flank.
“I leave it to the next battalion to play with the little guys. Our platoon leaves here immediately and skewers the Francois who came to support us. Break away.”
So, following the orders of the battalion commander, our battalion quickly retreated back to engage in a fierce battle with the newly appeared enemy battalion.
In the meantime, out of concern, I checked the condition of the battalion that had been caught by the enemy.
The confusion we caused by breaking their momentum seems to have been of great help, and they seem to be leading the battle little by little at the moment.
And when our battalion completely retreated and reorganized its formation, the reserve soldiers of the Francois Republic approached us.
The size is approximately 400 people in 3 companies.
In normal times, we would have thought we could easily win because we have more troops than they do.
Since there have been fierce battles one after another, the consumption of troops and stamina is high, so even 400 men is definitely not easy.
However, fortunately for us, the enemy’s reserve forces were not the Black Lion mercenaries.
The fact that the Black Lion mercenaries did not come towards us
means that our battalion led a partial victory, but suffered heavy damage overall.
Still, if we can just endure this… wouldn’t we be able to seize the opportunity to turn things around?
