I Became a Genius Commander at the Academy - Chapter 16
EP.16
The morning after the operations meeting.
Charles de Henry, commander of the Francois Republic’s 12th Division deployed to the Rhineland Front, woke up at the same time as me and sat down at his desk to look at the division’s work.
In normal times, the division commander would have complained about having to write a report every day even though there were no significant changes.
For today, I was grateful that I had the responsibility and right to write a report on the current status of the Rhineland Front.
This is because the decoy operation was successful this time and succeeded in defeating over 1,500 enemy troops with minimal sacrifice to our troops.
It was an operation that a seasoned commander would never have been caught in, but thankfully, the inexperienced student platoon commanders were able to succeed by biting the hook as they threw their way.
I feel like buying a drink for the opposing general who brought the student platoon leader to the front line.
And if things continue like this, he will be recognized for his achievements in winning the Rhineland Front and will be promoted to greater territory and wealth.
“When I was first assigned here, I resented Deus-sama for assigning me to this shitty front line, but it turns out that it was all God’s grace. ha ha ha!”
Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face and makes me feel like I’m picturing a rosy future ahead.
But the time immersed in such sentiments did not last long.
That’s because one foolish officer stormed into the division commander’s barracks, out of breath, without following the reporting system.
For a moment, Karl was about to scold the officer loudly, but he didn’t want to ruin his good mood.
Instead of yelling, I asked with a bit of dissatisfaction in my voice.
“What business have you come here for?”
“I have an urgent report, so I came directly to the division commander.”
“Just say your business quickly. Also, please follow the reporting procedures from now on. “If you do that next time, you will be governed by military law.”
“I understand, division commander. I’d like to report to you that at this time, the 8th Division of the Reich Army is preparing to retreat. “The situation is so urgent that they have not even properly organized their barracks and are trying to run away with only the minimum amount of food and weapons and armor.”
The division commander was so happy to hear those words that his anger at the reconnaissance officer ignoring the reporting system disappeared from his mind.
Instead, the intelligence officer who was foolish enough to not follow the reporting system began to be seen as a cute guy who inadvertently violated the reporting system in his sincerity to quickly tell me good news.
“Urgent reports can be reported without considering the reporting system. Especially if it is good news. However, from next time, unless the situation is as urgent as this, make sure to follow the reporting system.”
“Yes, I understand. “Division commander.”
Then, as was customary, the division commander gave 5 gold pieces to the officer who delivered the good news and said,
“If what you say is right, we will soon have a festival. Then, try to relieve your fatigue by hugging a woman. It looks like this is my first time in combat, but it will be a good experience to embrace the woman brought by the Jubo merchants on the battlefield.”
The officer who received the money gave an exemplary salute and thank you to the superior in front of him and quickly left the division commander’s barracks.
Next, the division commander ordered the watchman waiting outside to call the scout leader and confirm detailed information.
And that night, Charles de Henry, commander of the 12th Division of the Francois Republic, was confident of the coming victory and enjoyed the finest wine and cheese sold by bulletin board merchants.
All soldiers of the 12th Division were provided with alcohol and meat using the division budget, although the amount was small enough to not cause intoxication.
As it was customary for a division commander to serve alcohol and meat in a war, it meant that victory was almost certain, so all the soldiers, including the division officers, began to relax in the joy of the coming victory.
Without knowing what result it might lead to.

Only a day or two passed, but to me, Peter Yeager, it felt like a very long time.
Because this operation could be the biggest opportunity in my life…
If it fails, it will be such a blow that I will not be able to stand up again as a commander, but if it succeeds, it will be the starting point that will lead to wealth, fame, and power that can never be compared to before. Because it will be.
So, ‘What if I fail?’ The feeling of anxiety came over and over again.
However, as the saying goes, even the obnoxiously slow Ministry of Defense clock is ticking, and the day has finally come for me to be discharged.
The scheduled start time for the operation arrived, and scouts covered in dust hurried into the company headquarters.
Then everyone’s eyes focused on him.
This is because whether or not the operation will be carried out depends on that soldier’s report.
I asked calmly, hiding my pounding heart because of my nervousness, like a teenager in first love.
“What is the current situation of the Francois Republic Army?”
It was a very comprehensive question, but the scout with the rank of sergeant answered it calmly, as if he understood everything.
“Carl, commander of the 12th Division of the Francois Republic, saw us retreating and relaxed, confident of victory. Over the course of two days, yesterday and today, the division commander provided alcohol and meat to both officers and soldiers. It is said that the Jubo merchants are preparing to hold a banquet on the battlefield with prostitutes and meat clowns.”
When I heard those words, my heart swelled with joy.
I feel like I want to cheer right here and now, but this operation must be kept confidential until I lead my company to attack the enemy camp.
Of course, I informed the platoon leaders next to me 3 hours in advance to prepare for the operation.
The officers below the rank of captain from other companies pretended nothing had happened and answered because they were not allowed to know from now on.
“You worked hard. Then let’s go.”
“Yes, I understand.”
After saying that, the sergeant quickly left our barracks.
And the rest of us cheered loudly, and then I clapped to brighten the mood and spoke.
“Then, we will begin Operation ‘Thunder’ from now on. The platoon commanders of each platoon should return to the barracks immediately and wake up the soldiers of each platoon to bring carts 1 and 2 containing crossbow arrows and torches topped with crossbow jars. “The wizard class leader calls all the wizards in the battalion and asks them to gather in the square as promised in advance.”
After giving that order, the 1st platoon commander, the most senior officer in the company, asked on behalf of everyone.
“Yes, I understand. “Then what will you do, Lieutenant?”
“This acting company commander will personally inform the division commander of the start of the operation at this time. “It will probably take about 10 minutes, so make sure you have everything ready by then.”
“I will do as you command.”
After everyone left, I went to the division commander and reported the start of the operation, and then quickly walked to the company barracks square.
When I arrived, all the soldiers in the company were already waiting, as I ordered, with long spears in their left hands, pots in their right hands, unlit torches, and crossbows in their backs.
When I saw that, I clearly realized that the life and death of over 100 soldiers depended on my single command.
Since I didn’t have the time to feel such emotions right now, I decided to just say one thing and go.
“There’s no need for everything, I’ll just say one thing. Trust this company commander and fight with the readiness to risk your life! If we come back after winning like that, I will take responsibility and hold on to the division commander’s trouser legs to demand that you all be promoted. If you’re going to join the military, shouldn’t you leave as soon as possible and return to your wife and children? And I would like to ask you one more thing. “Let’s live and meet again.”
If it had been another company commander, he would have talked about the empire’s honor, wife and children, and wealth.
What touches the soldiers much more than anything else is the discharge.
Because that word contains all the really important things, such as the leisure of a person who has returned to life, a peaceful life spent with his wife and children.
Also, if this surprise operation is successful, I am promised the position of number one contributor for leading the front line that was on the verge of defeat to victory.
At that level, I would be able to petition for and pass a first-class special promotion for all soldiers without undermining my achievements.
“Long live the company commander!”
“Let’s make a special move and go home as soon as possible!”
“Let’s go eat home-cooked, warm food, not shitty oatmeal and half-rotten cheese!”
**
After raising the morale of the soldiers, I took them and approached as secretly as possible without being detected by the enemy.
In the process, I came across skirmishers a few times and almost got caught, but I shot them all dead with arrows before they could blow their whistle.
In that way, we were able to safely travel to the pre-designated point.
There I gave orders to my soldiers.
“The wizard throws a fireball as far as possible and burns the enemy camp, and the soldiers are divided into two groups. Group 1 is the 23rd Platoon and Group 2, the magicians, is the 14th Platoon. Group 1 will fire only one crossbow shot and leave the remaining crossbows here and charge together with me. Group 2 will use all remaining crossbows according to the platoon leader’s instructions. Next, everyone becomes one and, without thinking, dig into the enemy’s camp. The moment we get scared and flinch, we all die. Just look at my back and follow me!”
The soldiers nodded their heads in agreement, and immediately the wizards and soldiers fired magic and arrows at the enemy camp at once.
And I took a group of soldiers and charged in like crazy, or like a crazy person on drugs.
“Whoa! Uraaaaa!!”
Like some crazy brown bear soup that harvests and uses soldiers like wheat.
