I Became a Genius Commander at the Academy - Chapter 25
EP.25
The most important thing when training soldiers is not to develop weapon handling skills or to have unity so that a group of hundreds of people can move as one body.
If you say this, someone might say, ‘How important is it for a soldier to use weapons well and move as one body? You crazy guy! ‘, but he would refute it by saying,
In order to become an army with strong combat power, the hearts of its soldiers must first be united.
The method I chose for this is to force the body to move to death, put it in an extremely difficult environment, and create a situation where everyone has no choice but to rely on each other, thinking, ‘The only thing I can trust is my colleague who is training next to me.’
Considering the limitations of the times, it would be best to unite officers among officers and soldiers among soldiers in training.
If you use it in real life like I did, this will be resolved to some extent.
With that in mind, I prepared to blow the wake-up horn using a trumpet borrowed from the military band.
I feel like I’m too busy, so I’d like to leave it to Sergeant Schmitz, who has been with me since the days of the Jaeger Platoon…
In the Reich Empire, where a strict class system is in place, it is basic for nobles to be taught and trained only by nobles.
So, I have no choice but to train the officers.
In times like these, the best thing to do is just give up everything and enjoy working hard.
“Wake up within 15 minutes, change clothes, and then gather at the parade ground! “Those who are late will have fun at the parade ground with me until it’s time to eat this morning!”
As soon as my disobedient order was issued, the officers newly assigned to my unit and subject to training began to move in a hurry.
Some of the captains were older than me, but I was the only one who came up with this type of training.
From second lieutenants to captains in their mid-30s, they showed a foolish attitude, unable to adapt to the training method they were receiving for the first time.
Some people were in such a hurry that they sewed the buttons in the wrong place, causing the laces to tear or wearing them backwards, creating a confusing scene.
“You crazy bastard! How do you wear a breastplate wearing something like that? Wake.”
“My number 3 string! If this continues, won’t we be late for the meeting time?”
“After graduating from the academy, I came to work under the war hero Captain Yeager, and I was upset. What is this?”
Is it because they have already been tormenting me for three days?
Although he complained, he quickly put on his armor and ran outside to get a long spear from the armory.
After about 10 minutes, the guys who had just woken up gathered together with swollen, tired faces.
Ensign McNair, the tallest of the ensigns, raised his hand in the center and shouted.
“All 12 members of the 1st platoon directly under the Jaeger Battalion have been assembled!”
“Everyone worked hard. From now on, everyone starts cantering in the morning. If there’s even one guy who’s later than me, I’ll make sure you’re all spearing until tonight!
When regimental responsibility was mentioned, the faces of the soldiers, or even the officers who had just transferred to my battalion, crumpled.
However, in an era where I am of a higher rank than them and the manly spirit of pre-modern Europe is still alive, it is a recommended virtue for a high-ranking person to set an example in training.
Also, since I was trained on the Rhineland front, there is no way I would lose in a physical competition with them…
I may be dissatisfied because they are asking me to take joint responsibility.
Those guys must be deep in admiration, saying, ‘Our battalion commander is a man who leads by example. He is different from the man who received the Silver Knight’s Sword medal…’
“Start cantering now. Go out through the main gate, run 3 times around the castle, and then come in. Run forward from the beginning.
As soon as those words were finished, one of the ensigns in the lead started running, and the rest of the officers, wearing military uniforms with breastplates, also started running after them.
In addition, I started running at a speed that was neither too slow nor too fast, following those who were running in front of me.
Then, the officer trainees who were running ahead of me started running even harder to avoid the disaster of catching up with me and having to fight until late at night.
Here I added a few words to ease their nerves.
“I’m sure those so-called Jaeger Battalion officers won’t catch up with me, right? “I’m running at the same speed as the soldiers… I’m sure they won’t catch up with me!”
The speed I am currently running at is approximately 14 km/h.
This is slower than a modern marathon runner, but it is quite fast for an average person running a long distance.
So, it is a speed that is difficult for someone who has not trained a lot to overcome.
Soldiers, like the officers in front of them, run without wearing military uniforms with breastplates and gaiters.
Therefore, I would not be disappointed if the officers caught up with me while running with all their might.
Anyway, I focused on pushing them to their physical limits with a morning canter to train their endurance.
As we passed the halfway point of the distance we run every day, the officers gritted their teeth and said,
“Would the great Reich Empire’s officers be of use if they had less physical strength than the soldiers? “Let’s all grit our teeth and run!”
“evil! can do!!”
“Only half left! Hang in there!!”
In this way, the officers held out until the end of the canter with pride as nobles of the Reich Empire.
When I finished running and arrived at my original destination, I collapsed on the floor, out of breath.
Meanwhile, I am only 19 years old, and my physical strength has increased a lot since I was on the Rhineland front last time.
Unlike them, I was able to stand in front of the officers and speak without even a single breath.
“Everyone worked hard. Then, the meal will arrive soon, so fill your stomach first and then start training.”
**
And meal time.
Here, high-ranking people often say that the commander should eat together with the soldiers and subordinates in order for them to unite, but
it is very bad behavior for a high-ranking person to follow the people who have completed hard training during their only rest time.
So I decided to eat alone somewhere reasonably far away.
As I walked away, the officers gathered in groups of twos and threes and started chatting while eating Jjambap.
“Is that a person, battalion commander? He was clearly running at the same speed as us, but why is he okay?”
“There’s no need for it, Lieutenant. Isn’t training too hard? Just by cantering this morning, I feel like I ran like crazy for an hour. After eating, isn’t it time to start practicing spearmanship?”
“I thought it was easy because they removed all the advanced movements to make it easier for soldiers to teach, but I never thought they would measure the range of arm movements with a ruler like a knife… It’s really a poisonous tumor.”
Although most of the stories are a bit of complaining about the intense training and some behind-the-scenes stories about myself.
I felt pleasure inside after listening to their conversation.
Of course it’s not because I’m a crazy person who enjoys being criticized by others.
Until a few days ago, the officers had a sense of belonging to the same battalion, but they were not united as one.
So, it was a situation where unity was very low, but I guess my philosophy that if we stick together, we become one, was correct.
This is because the officers quickly became close friends based on stories behind my back about my existence.
“But isn’t he a great person? Even though it’s light armor because it’s for training purposes, I walked around the castle three times wearing something that weighed over 10 kilograms and didn’t even pant. ”
“He is different from us because he became a war hero at that age. “You rose up from a commoner to your current position in an instant…”
“The battalion commander’s achievements are so noticeable that even those who served under him… I heard this secretly when I was working in the division’s personnel department. He was promoted to lieutenant on the battlefield. “There was a rumor going around that I would be passed right away in the first round of the captain promotion review.”
The officers’ eyes lit up at those words.
Because an officer’s life depends on how far he or she is promoted.
If you are promoted to major and then discharged, you can live your whole life being treated as a knight, but if you are discharged as captain, you will be treated like a once noble officer.
Of course, that’s a huge qualification, so you can get a job like captain of a guard in a rural area…
but it’s better to be treated as a knight, receive a pension, and live comfortably. Even better is to be promoted to lieutenant colonel or higher and receive a formal succession title that can be passed on to your children. That’s it.
And the lieutenant who worked in the personnel department continued speaking.
“So, if you just follow our battalion commander, your path to future promotion will be clear. Trust that and we will be trained by rolling around like dogs. ”
At those words, the officers probably thought I wasn’t watching, so they all loudly agreed and finished eating.
And that day, I somehow found fault with the officers and made them do nothing but spear until 8 p.m.
This was to increase their fighting power and unity, and was never intended to take revenge on me for backbiting them.
So, I trained the officers for two weeks to increase their stamina and unity.
Before I knew it, there were even people among them who called me older and younger in private.
