Return of the Sword God-Rank Civil Servant - Chapter 62
Chapter 62
The Sky Wyvern King was bewildered.
While the previous intruders had come in with every last person they could muster, this time, only a single individual had entered.
At first, the Sky Wyvern King couldn’t believe his eyes.
What was this?
Was he being ignored?
Or had this one mistakenly entered?
However, the thought didn’t last long.
“Kiaaoo!”
A high-pitched cry rang out.
It was the cry of a subordinate wyvern below.
Ah, so that’s it.
This one hadn’t come alone out of recklessness, nor by mistake.
He was simply strong enough that even those below couldn’t do anything to stop him.
As proof, the intruder wasn’t affected in the slightest by the King’s aura.
Interesting.
Maybe this one could add some excitement to his monotonous life in the sky.
With that thought, the Sky Wyvern King began to circle around Suho.
Watching the creature, Suho let out a short laugh.
‘How ridiculous.’
Just from its low-speed flight, he could tell.
It was wary, testing the waters against him.
These types were the trickiest.
Those who weren’t arrogant about their strength and approached calmly.
The ones who, though born as lions, still did their utmost to catch even a single rabbit.
That was why Suho let out a faint chuckle.
‘So what if you stay calm?’
He was just a flying lizard, after all.
Of course, it was true that he would be a hassle.
After all, Suho didn’t yet have “those skills.”
But, as the saying goes, if you don’t have teeth, use your gums—when had he ever relied on those skills to reach the peak?
With his thoughts clear, Suho began moving swiftly.
His goal was the highest peak of the Sky Mountain.
Only by reaching the nest and disturbing it would the creature lose its reason.
As Suho climbed the mountain with remarkable speed, sure enough, the Sky Wyvern King ceased his slow flight and began beating his wings in earnest.
– Kaaaoooo!
The Sky Wyvern King charged.
As he approached Suho, he twisted his body and swung his long tail like a whip.
Boom!!
When the tail struck the surface of the Sky Mountain, a thunderous sound erupted, sending fragments scattering in all directions.
Of course, Suho was no longer in that spot.
Just before the tail whip landed, he had jumped away, evading the strike itself.
‘That was heavy.’
As expected of the Sky Wyvern King.
Its destructive power was in an entirely different league from the ones he’d fought below.
Fortunately, the resilience of Sky Mountain was greater than Suho had anticipated.
Though fragments and dust flew, the actual groove left in the mountain’s surface wasn’t particularly deep.
‘So that’s why it’s attacking so freely.’
Had Sky Mountain been weaker, it might have been forced to hold back its attacks, which would have been a shame.
Well.
Sky Mountain was inherently sturdy, which was likely why it had made this place its home.
Unperturbed, Suho resumed his ascent up the mountain.
– Kyaaaah!
As Suho continued his relentless climb, the Sky Wyvern King used its aura to launch a series of attacks.
Each time, Suho dodged what he could and struck whenever there was an opening.
[ Severing Steel activated. ]
[ Draw Slash activated. ]
[ Leap activated. ]
However, the Sky Wyvern King’s hide was tougher than Suho had expected.
Even his Steel Slash didn’t make a dent.
‘Hmm, maybe the 40-level gap is inevitable.’
And so Suho smiled.
A training dummy as tough as this.
Indeed, only a creature of this durability would allow him to focus on skill training so freely.
Suho hoped the creature would last as long as possible.
Only then could he obtain that skill in this gate.
Following the tail whip, the King now swung its wings like claws, sweeping the cliff in a wide attack.
But what did it matter?
Small area or large, all he needed to do was jump to dodge.
‘I knew I did well to boost my Strength stat first.’
There was a reason Suho had deliberately raised his Strength stat first.
Although increasing Strength didn’t enhance his stamina, it greatly boosted his power, speed, and jump height.
Thus, dodging with such leaps was a technique only Suho could employ.
‘Among those who can enter here, there’s probably no one else who’s raised even a single stat to Red grade yet.’
And even if someone had raised a stat to Red grade, it was likely their Health or Mana.
Most people invested in Health or Mana first, aiming to increase their survival rate.
After several dodges, Suho finally caught sight of the summit.
It was at that moment.
– Kyaooooo!!
The Sky Wyvern King let out a piercing cry.
Simultaneously, a system notification appeared.
[ The Sky Wyvern King has summoned subordinate wyverns. ]
As expected.
It had decided it couldn’t handle this alone.
In response to the King’s howling, countless silhouettes began rising through the clouds from below.
They were the Sky Wyverns.
But then…
‘Oh? That one?’
Among the wyverns flocking toward him, Suho recognized one and laughed.
The one with injured wings.
The leader wyvern he’d assumed had died from its fall.
Somehow, like a zombie, it had managed to rise again and reappear before him.
Yet that was all it could do.
Even with its title as leader, in the face of the King’s summons, it was just another ordinary wyvern underling.
Suho brushed off the blood from his sword and muttered.
“Quite a crowd.”
A quick glance revealed dozens of them.
Far more than the initial unit he’d faced.
And so Suho smiled.
He hadn’t even obtained the skill he wanted yet, and here these excellent dummies were flocking to him en masse.
Suho abandoned his climb and returned to a broader path.
So, what would they do now?
A little more, and he would reach the nest. Surely they wouldn’t just let him go?
Naturally, the wyverns had no such intention.
As the Sky Wyvern King let out a call, the wyverns swarmed Suho like moths drawn to a flame.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Unlike the cautious tactics they’d employed under the leader wyvern, the wyverns now threw themselves at him fearlessly, as if under the influence of the terror exuded by the Sky Wyvern King.
The wyverns had no choice.
Whether they died at Suho’s hand or at the King’s, retreat meant death either way.
Knowing this, Suho purposely didn’t ascend to the peak but instead treated it like a point-scoring game, dodging and slashing at the wyverns.
He continued like this for some time.
Then, it happened.
[ Your understanding of Leap has greatly increased. ]
[ The system has begun reassessing your talent. ]
[ Congratulations! The grade of the Leap skill has been adjusted to S-rank. ]
[ Leap’s information has been updated, and an additional effect has been created. ]
The rank of Suho’s Leap skill had risen by one level.
At the same time, a smile spread across Suho’s lips.
At last, he had acquired one of the skills he desired.
Suho immediately checked the details of Leap.
[ Leap ]
– Grade: S
# For those who have reached the pinnacle of jumping ability.
# Jumping power is increased by 500%.
# When leaping, you can make one additional push-off in midair.
Perfect.
He had finally obtained the S-rank Leap, commonly known as the double jump, or two-stage jump.
After checking the skill information, Suho grinned broadly.
‘It took quite a while to acquire, likely because it’s a simple jump ability.’
Even the original Leap had been helpful, but now he had a 500% jump boost, plus the ability to jump once more in midair.
The difference was considerable.
Especially when facing an opponent with aerial combat capabilities.
‘Of course, the next level will be even more useful, but for now, this will do.’
Suho raised his sword again.
Then, he jumped, dodging an approaching wyvern and landing on its head before leaping off again.
In that moment,
[ Leap activated. ]
He soared lightly upward.
His leaping ability was far greater than it had been at A-rank.
But even with this height, he still couldn’t reach the Sky Wyvern King.
So, Suho leapt once more.
Defying physical limits, he pushed off the air itself.
[ Leap activated again. ]
With the updated system notification, Suho propelled himself upward, using midair support.
Instantly, he drew close to the Sky Wyvern King, who widened his reptilian yellow eyes, clearly shocked by Suho’s unexpected maneuver.
Suho extended his Blood Sword.
Then, gripping the sword with both hands, he swung with all his might.
[ Draw Slash activated. ]
Slaaash!!
The blade, stretched out like a staff, sliced deeply into the wyvern’s hide.
– Keeeee!!
As the blade dug into its flesh, the Sky Wyvern King let out an agonized scream.
The creature twisted its body, shaking off Suho, while other wyverns rushed in with open jaws to intercept his fall.
They thought it was the perfect strategy.
A creature falling from the sky, without wings, couldn’t do anything.
However, they didn’t know.
They were unaware of the power of Suho’s Blood Weapon.
With the Blood Sword gripped in reverse, Suho began a transformation.
“Extend, like the Monkey King’s Staff!”
[ Blood Weapon activated. ]
Following Suho’s intent, the Blood Sword’s blade, held in reverse grip, extended like a staff.
The elongated blade pierced one wyvern’s open mouth.
“Gack!”
“Graah!”
“Gah!”
One after another, it skewered the others, forming a perfect line of wyvern kabobs.
At that point, Suho’s fall came to a halt.
Clinging to the hilt of the Blood Sword, Suho released his grip, landing atop the skewered wyverns.
Then, using their bodies as stepping stones, he summoned the Blood Sword back to his hand.
And once more, he swung his sword toward the Sky Wyvern King.
[ Leap activated again. ]
[ Draw Slash activated. ]
The sequence remained the same.
Leap twice to close the distance, then cut the wyvern.
While falling, he cut through other wyverns, and when there was no place to step, he used the Blood Weapon to land back on Sky Mountain.
When they attacked again, he repeated the process.
Soon enough, the wyverns began to grow afraid.
Even more surprising, the Sky Wyvern King itself started hesitating to approach Suho.
Seeing the wyverns’ hesitation, Suho didn’t look back and dashed toward the peak.
“Hesitate, and you’ll be devoured.”
Skipping any confrontation, Suho sprinted straight for the summit, startling the Sky Wyverns, who quickly began diving at him again.
However, as Suho’s blade flashed once more, they hesitated, and whenever they did, he ascended without a moment’s delay.
After repeating this two or three times, Suho finally reached the peak of Sky Mountain.
It was then.
– Kwaoooh!!
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Upon reaching the peak, an ear-splitting roar resounded, causing the entire mountain to tremble.
And something massive began charging toward Suho.
Casting a huge shadow, the figure was far larger than the Sky Wyvern King.
Suho could see the name above its head.
– Sky Wyvern Queen Lv.120
Sky Wyvern Queen.
At last, Suho was face to face with the true ruler of Sky Mountain.
