The Legendary Hero is an Academy Honors Student - Chapter 254
Chapter 254
“Hey, did you decide on a mentee?”
“Yeah, yesterday.”
In the main lecture room of the second-year classroom building, the second-year students gathered before their joint heroics class.
They chatted eagerly about the newly introduced mentee system.
With only one day left to finalize the mentee and mentor pairings, most second-year students who were interested in taking on mentees had already made their choices.
“What about you? Didn’t you say you didn’t like how she was so arrogant?”
“Yes! But listen! At first, I thought she was arrogant. But when we talked yesterday, I saw her eyes sparkle, and I thought she was quite cute.”
The second-years busily discussed the juniors they had chosen as mentees.
Chelsea, observing the lively chatter, was surprised.
“You’re surprisingly receptive.”
“That’s inevitable.”
“Huh? What do you mean, Leo?”
Carr, who was sitting with them, crossed his arms.
“Weren’t you scared of your seniors when you were a first year? Did you even dare to make eye contact with them?”
Thinking back to then…
“Huh? They weren’t scary at all. They were actually really friendly.”
“That’s what sets you apart.”
Carr made a rueful face.
Chelsea nodded, biting her index finger thoughtfully.
“That’s true. The kids in our class were really intimidated by our seniors.”
The Summoning Department had the strictest rankings among students.
But even in other departments, freshmen often hesitated to approach their seniors at the start of the semester.
“When you’re a freshman, you’re busy adjusting to school life and wary of your seniors. And second-years don’t feel a need to bond with first-years, who could leave the school at any time.”
Carr rested his chin on his hand.
“That’s why, aside from our peers, we don’t get close with anyone. In the worst cases, relations between grades deteriorate. Just look at the fourth- and fifth-years. And we also don’t have the best relationship with the third-years.”
Lumene often saw strained relationships between seniors and juniors.
The current fifth-years were at odds with the fourth-years, led by Elena, known as the Queen of Lumene.
The second-years and third-years had similar issues.
Although Leo and Lille, the second- and third-year class representatives, weren’t on bad terms, the third-years viewed the second-years as a thorn in their side.
Many students harbored resentment toward the third-years.
“We had a chance to bond with the first-years before that happened,” Leo added.
At least until the end of the first semester, there was no real separation between the classes.
That’s why it was easier for the second-years to connect with the first-years.
“The kids are naturally vulnerable to the word ‘senior,’ so they want to take care of their juniors,” Leo said.
Carr looked bewildered.
“Aren’t you a kid yourself?”
“Sometimes you talk like an old man, Leo.”
Chelsea shrugged.
“Class president! You shouldn’t be so friendly with kids from other dorms! They might try to steal information about our dorm!”
At that moment, Eliana ran over, her face full of concern.
Chelsea and Carr exchanged indifferent glances.
“How could anyone get information from Leo?”
“Yeah, an idiot like you wouldn’t even notice,” Carr teased.
“Class president! He called me an idiot!”
Eliana complained to Leo with a sad expression.
“It’s true,” Leo said flatly.
“Tide! You say that too!” Eliana snapped.
Tide approached with a sharp remark. “Every time I see you, you just get louder and louder.”
Nella, who accompanied him, smiled languidly as always.
For the first time in a while, the six members of their previous first-year Class 5 had gathered together.
“By the way, have you all decided on your mentees?” Tide asked.
He crossed his arms.
Eliana grinned smugly.
“Of course! I chose Austin!”
“Austin? I’ve never heard that name before.”
Nella tilted her head.
“Is he from the Knight Studies Department or the Sorcery Department?” Tide added.
“A sorcerer,” Eliana declared proudly.
“Hoot! Don’t be surprised! He’s a former Zerdinger knight trainee and a member of the class president’s knighthood!”
Eliana’s smug expression widened.
“He’s the class president’s subordinate? So if he’s going to be recommended to drop out, wouldn’t the class president just grab him by the collar and make him train?”
“How can someone who’s usually so foolish be so clever?”
Carr smirked.
“Hey! I’m smart! I’m a top student, you know,” Eliana shot back.
“Then what am I? Just plain ignorant?” Carr teased again.
Eliana fumed and lunged at Carr.
Nella lazily restrained her.
Leo, observing the scene, spoke calmly. “I’ll warn you now. I’m not going to show him any special care just because he’s a member of my knighthood.”
“Huh?!”
Eliana froze.
“I’ll give you some advice. But his training is up to him. Austin probably wants to survive life at Lumene on his own.”
“Waaaaaaaaa!”
Eliana screamed.
She clutched her head dramatically.
The others ignored her and continued their conversation.
“Nella, what about you?” Leo asked.
“I took on two juniors as my mentees. What about you, Tide?”
“Mine is a sorcerer,” Tide replied simply.
“You don’t have one yet, right, Carr? Everyone’s probably saying they don’t want you as their mentor.”
“You don’t have to tell me. It’s heartbreaking.”
Carr’s expression grew gloomy.
“Come to think of it, the dorm leaders surprisingly haven’t accepted any mentees yet, right?”
Nella’s curiosity piqued.
“What about us? The class president is clearly the center of commotion. Chloe said she’s going to select students who submitted their reading reports today. And Chen Xia mentioned she received quite a few requests, too.”
Nella tilted her head at Eliana’s response.
“Chen Xia is surprising. I thought she wouldn’t be there since it was revealed she was a Shadow. But it seems that’s not the case.”
“Yeah.”
‘Most of the ones flocking to her are Shadow candidates, though,’ Leo thought to himself.
“Chelsea, what about you?”
“I didn’t plan on taking on a mentee in the first place. But Celia and Walden are choosing carefully.”
Chelsea crossed her arms.
“There are a lot of people wanting to be mentees. Of course, Walden doesn’t seem to care much.”
Walden’s spirit sorcery, which uses spirits to power his spells, was quite unconventional.
It was a result of his own talent and intuition, requiring a deep understanding of spirit sorcery.
Many first-year students interested in spirit sorcery sought his guidance.
“My brother already chose one.”
“Abad did? Who is his mentee?”
Carr answered Eliana’s question.
“A guy named Fritz.”
“I’ve never heard of him. Why did he choose him? Is he exceptionally skilled?”
“Skill is part of it, but Abad chose him for his unique sorcery trait.”
Carr explained.
“He uses blood as the medium for his spells.”
“Blood? That’s a rare trait.”
“Yeah. That’s why my brother wanted him as a mentee, to study it.”
“Your trait is intriguing. I’d like to study it. Would you consider being my mentee?” Abad, with his usual soft smile, asked.
“Of course.” Fritz adjusted his glasses and replied with his expressionless face.
“Hohoho. How unusual! What about Duran and Eliza?”
Carr shrugged.
“Our prince gets a lot of requests for him to be a mentor. But you know how he is, right? If he doesn’t like someone, he doesn’t bother. And Eliza…”
Carr covered his mouth with a huff.
“Not a single first-year has asked to be her mentee?”
“Nobody even asked her? She didn’t just reject them all?”
Everyone looked surprised.
“It can’t be helped. Her reputation precedes her.”
“But isn’t her personality just as unapproachable as Duran’s?”
Chelsea tilted her head in confusion, prompting Carr to chuckle.
“Duran is known as a top student. Eliza, on the other hand, is a total delinquent with poor grades. Who would want to be her mentee? They avoid her for fear of being treated like her servant. Puhahahaha! She’s in the same boat as me…”
Swick–Swish!
“Choke!!”
A whip suddenly flew through the air and wrapped around Carr’s neck.
Everyone’s gaze shifted to the person holding the whip.
Eliza stood there, her face flushed and her shoulders trembling.
“You. Come with me.”
“Help me!”
Eliza, with wide eyes, dragged the pale-faced Carr away.
A moment later, a desperate scream echoed.
“Leo, you won’t accept anyone as a mentee?”
“Chelsea, aren’t you worried about Carr?”
Chelsea smiled brightly as Tide asked, bewildered.
“Carr will be fine. He’ll be back soon enough.”
Everyone nodded at Chelsea’s words.
“Has your popularity as class president waned?”
Initially, almost all the first-year students rushed to become Leo’s mentees.
Now, only a few students were daring enough to continue trying to become Leo’s mentee.
They had given up, believing it was impossible to land a valid blow on Leo.
“There are only five persistent students left. If you’re considering accepting a mentee, you should start now,” Leo replied to Eliana.
“I don’t need a mentee. But those students need me. You have to learn to get what you need yourself.”
“Right. Right.”
Chelsea nodded in agreement with Leo’s words.
Squeak—
The lecture room door opened and someone walked in.
The students quickly sat down and turned their heads.
A professor they had never seen before entered.
“Who is that professor?”
“Is this the new professor?”
She was a stunning beauty.
With rare silver hair and eyes, she exuded a warm and calming presence.
But the most striking feature was the eye patch over her left eye.
“Isn’t that Professor Mel? Why is she here?”
Carr, who had been trampled by Eliza, widened his eyes.
Eliza stopped and asked, “Do you know her?”
“Yeah. Smile.” Carr, dusting off his clothes, replied, “I know she’s a first-year sorcery professor, but why is she in the second-year heroics class?”
Mel, standing at the podium, smiled brightly.
“It’s nice to meet you all. I’m Mel, the first-year sorcery theory professor and the special heroics class instructor for all grades.”
Clap, clap, clap, clap—
The second-year students applauded Mel’s introduction, amazed.
Typically, a Lumene professor taught only one subject.
But a first-year sorcery theory professor teaching a special heroics class for all grades?
“How much knowledge does she have about heroics?”
Everyone looked at Mel with curiosity.
Heroics.
In an age where the Hero Records existed, it was a subject more important than any other.
The place that can be called the mecca of heroism was none other than the Hero Academy itself.
If Lumene, one of those hero academies, invited her as a special guest, she must possess great knowledge.
Mel smiled and opened a subspace.
She placed a bowl of cookies on the desk.
The delicious aroma of the cookie quickly filled the classroom.
The female students’ eyes sparkled as they focused on the bowl of cookies Mel had brought.
Their heightened senses and instincts, sharpened by Lumene’s desserts, were at work.
‘That cookie… looks incredibly tempting.’
Mel pulled up a chair and sat down, swinging her legs playfully.
“Are there any students who are curious about me?”
At her question, several students eagerly raised their hands.
“Yes, Duran Moira.”
Mel, having memorized the faces and names of all the second-year students, smiled and gave Duran, who had raised his hand first, the floor.
“You mentioned giving a special lecture on heroics… What heroes will you be covering?”
“I’ll be lecturing on the heroes from the Age of Creation,” Mel replied calmly.
But the second-year students were stunned.
The Age of Creation.
The era following the Great Heroes’ defeat of Erebos was known as the Age of Heroes.
However, the Age of Heroes was divided into early and late periods.
And in between was the brief but significant Age of Creation.
This was the time when the Hero’s World, the true source of the Hero Record’s power, was known to have come into existence.
“Wait a minute! If you’re covering the Age of Creation then, surely…!”
Countless heroes emerged during the Age of Heroes.
Among them, five were exceptionally special.
These heroes, born during the Age of Creation, were known as the Heroes of Creation, and there are only five of them.
“That’s correct.”
Mel’s smile grew brighter.
“The heroes I will cover are the Dragon of Creation, the Knight of Twilight, the Sorcerer of the Comet, the Great Warrior, and the Indomitable.”
The second-year students swallowed nervously.
Chomp—
Mel continued after taking a bite of her cookie.
“First, let’s begin with the founder of this very school, the Knight of Twilight, Lumene.”
