The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman - Chapter 870
Chapter 870
“Loot? Besides dragon meat… Ah!”
Sterin shook his head as if he didn’t understand, then his eyes widened.
“Seriously, are you thinking of going to Matirus’ Rare?”
“Not thinking, I’ve already decided to go.”
Raon shook his head lightly.
“It’s only right that we shouldn’t take treasure without its owner.”
Dragons are known to collect gold bars and gems, just as crows collect shiny objects.
Books of old tales told of humans and monsters offering gems and gold coins to dragons when they ruled the land, so a dragon the size of Mathirus might have built a mountain of gold bars and gems.
“Hmm, I suppose you’re right, there must be treasure.”
Sterin coughed and nodded.
“But I’m an elf, so I don’t know if it’s worth taking.”
“You have every right to say that, Guardian.”
If anyone else had said that, they would have been called a mere mortal, but not Sterin.
He stood in the most exalted position among the elves, and yet he lived a frugal life.
“But people need money. Besides, wouldn’t it be fun?”
“Fun?”
Sterin cocked his head as if he didn’t understand.
“Don’t you wonder how they’d react if we used the gold and bones of the dragons that attacked us to make weapons to kill other dragons?”
Raon laughed and shrugged.
“Even if we had the materials – dragon bones and teeth – we’d still need astronomical amounts of money to process the equipment. Stealing dragon rares would be a great help in our future wars.”
“Using dragon bones and money to make weapons to kill dragons….?”
Sterin stroked his chin and drew a deep smile to his lips.
“Very good idea, I can’t wait to see the look on their faces.”
He nodded, wanting to join the fight, even if it meant taking care of himself.
“Yes. You’ll definitely get to see it, and I’ll dust off some of my other dragon rares and send some equipment to Sephiroth as well.”
Raon nodded solemnly.
“All, other Dragon Rares?”
Sterin’s eyes widened.
“You’re going to rob all three of them of their rares?”
“Of course. I don’t know the Red Dragon’s name, so let’s leave him alone, but the Black Dragon is a high dragon, so he must know where the Rares are.”
Given the Black Dragon’s hateful behaviour towards humans and the fact that it’s a dragon, it must know where its rares are.
He should have sent another party or troupe to retrieve it, not a jester.
“That’s right, the winner takes the spoils!”
Marta exclaimed, stomping her feet in delight.
“Do they have bead ice cream?”
Lunan pursed his lips as if he didn’t care about money.
“No….”
Crane shook his head, as if there would never be any.
“Rare stealing…. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do as a Siegfried prosecutor, banditry? Well, it’s what you’re supposed to do if you can save a lot of people….”
Beren’s eyebrows dipped deeply in thought, and he set his jaw. It was like looking at Karun.
“I don’t know about the others, but we’ll have to stop by Mathirus’s Rare, and I’m sure the family will have a preview.”
Raon looked up at the sky and cleared his throat, the faces of his family coming to mind as he remembered the hard fought battle.
“I have sent word.”
Beren shook his head slightly.
“You posted a report?”
“Yes. I thought your lordship might be worried, so I sent it after I saw you were awake.”
He lowered his hand as if to say he could contact him later.
“…Right. Thank you.”
Raon smiled thinly. It was odd to think that Beren had beaten him to the punch, especially since he had always argued with Remer for not making such reports.
‘We should definitely elect a second-in-command.
I’d been thinking about a second-in-command since Rimer left.
Lunan is the strongest in terms of brute force, but she’s not the most forward-thinking.
Marta is driven and driven, but her head gets hot quickly, and she can’t lead everyone.
No matter how much she thought about it, the only one who could lead the troupe on her behalf was Buren.
“Ooooooo!”
Dorian put down the dragon meat he’d been grilling and began drooling profusely.
“Rares! Gold! Gems! Supply!”
His eyes glittered golden, as if he had already entered Matirus’ Rare.
-What, what are you doing, you’re burning the meat!
Rath, on the other hand, gestured quickly for him to turn the meat over, as if he didn’t care about the gold bars.
“Ah!”
Dorian snapped to attention and quickly flipped the meat, as if he had heard Lars’ words.
“Hmm, this one looks almost done, doesn’t it?”
Crane placed the Red Dragon’s meat on a plate, its red colour completely gone.
“Hehe, since you said you wanted to eat it, why don’t you try it first?”
He held out the steaming roast Red Dragon in front of him, as if to say, “You asked for it, so eat it first.
“That’s true, but….”
Raon smirked, dipping his fork into the meat and shoving it into the crane’s mouth.
“The clown always eats the native crane first.”
“Ew!”
The crane wanted to refuse, but Raon’s strength outside of his human form was too much for him, and he shoved the meat into his mouth.
“Chew.”
“Mmm… Mmm?”
He chewed the dragon roast with a frown of disgust, his eyes suddenly widening.
“What, what, why is it delicious?”
Crane finished chewing and swallowing the meat in a flash, and then savoured it.
“Really? That’s delicious?”
Marta laughed in disbelief.
“If you’re lying….”
“Seriously, it tastes amazing! I’ve never had anything like it!”
Crane held out the dragon meat for Marta to try for herself.
“Me first.”
Lunan stepped forward and took a bite of the roasted dragon.
“Delicious.”
She gave the ice cream a thumbs-up, her own version of a rave review, even though it wasn’t ice cream.
“Mmm….”
Marta frowned, then popped the dragon meat into her mouth, not wanting to lose to Lunan.
“Uh, Ji, it really has a nice fire flavour, it’s not like beef!”
She shoved bite after bite of meat into her mouth, saying it tasted really good.
“It really is.”
“It’s so good!”
“I never knew dragon meat could taste so good….”
The other clown swordsmen also chewed and swallowed the red and gold dragon meat, saying that it tasted good.
-Chew, it feels good to see them eating so well!
Rath chuckled, happy to see everyone enjoying the dragon meat.
“But I’m not eating that one.
Raon narrowed his eyes at the pile of black dragon meat to his right. No one was touching it for fear of being poisoned by eating it.
-You’re stupid, the black lizard has a strong resistance to poison, it doesn’t carry poison in its body!
Rath shook his head, noting that whatever venom there was must have been burned off in the fire.
-If the others won’t eat, then you will, for even the king has had enough!
He waved his hand furiously at them to give in and eat quickly.
‘I see. I understand.’
Laon nodded and shoved the untouched Black Dragon’s meat into his mouth.
First the salty salt coated his tongue, then waves of juiciness washed over him.
The whole mouth felt like a sticky, juicy bread spreading out.
-Kiyaaaaaaah!
Rath exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air.
-This is what eating dragons is all about!
He began to dance in the air, exclaiming that it tasted better than he expected.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Dorian asked, lowering his eyes slightly to make sure it wasn’t poisonous.
“Yep. I think all the poison is gone.”
Raon smiled and nodded, and only then did the other swordsmen begin to eat the black dragon meat.
“Jonjal Raon led everyone without fear, even for food….”
Shi Yan didn’t show his face, hiding behind a tree and writing again. Hearing the name Jonjal Raon made his head hurt.
“That book is scarier than a dragon….”
Raon shook his head as he ate a barrel-roasted black dragon.
[Triggers Talent ].
[Talent achievement is increased].
[Talent ranks up].
Suddenly, a reward message popped up.
-Eh?
-Hmm?
Raon and Rath’s eyes widened equally as they looked at the message.
-What the hell, why are my attributes going up!
Rath’s mouth dropped open in disbelief.
‘Ah, it was strange that the reward didn’t have a poison talent, but now it’s rising like this.
Raon smirked at the reward message.
It seemed that the power of gluttony had been activated, and the Black Dragon’s trait of strong resistance to poison had been applied to him.
‘Then….’
He put down the black dragon meat and tried the red dragon meat.
-The Red Dragon is the best in terms of flavour, as its meat seems to contain the flame itself!
Rath chuckled, grabbing his chubby cheeks as if to remind himself when he was angry.
[Triggers Talent ].
[Talent achievement increases].
The same thing happened this time. I didn’t get a rating increase in Fire Resistance, but I did get a message saying that my achievement had increased.
-Ugh!
Rath’s mouth watered in delight, and his eyes widened.
-V, it wasn’t just the Black Dragon?
His chin twitched in disbelief.
-You didn’t do that with the Purple Lizard before!
There was no gluttony then.
-Shut up!
Lars ruffled his hair as if to say, what the hell is this?
“What do you think would happen if I ate a gold dragon?
-Wait, wait!
Raon ignored Rath’s words, smirked, and popped the gold dragon’s meat into his mouth.
-Ma, it’s delicious! The meat is so tender, it melts like ice cream on your tongue.
Rath’s eyes softened, as if he had fallen in love with the dragon meat and his anger had subsided.
[Triggers Talent ].
[Talent is generated].
[Talent achievement increases].
As befits the light-using meat of the Gold Dragon, the Talent for Light Resistance has been created.
“So this is how it works?
Raon curled up the corners of his mouth.
It seemed that tonight’s dinner would be enough to raise all three resistances.
‘I’ll have to eat the whole thing….
-No, don’t eat it!
Rath cut in front of him, warning him not to eat.
“Really?
Raon crossed his arms lazily, as if he didn’t care.
-Uh-uh….
Rath glanced back. His eyes fluttered as he stared at the steaming meat.
“I don’t mind, but are you sure you’re okay?
-Yuck!
Rath gagged and shook his head.
“Are you sure you don’t want to eat it?
-Ha, just one….
He held up his finger for just one.
“Okay.
Raon nodded and took a bite of the Black Dragon’s meat.
-Chew! It’s so delicious! I can’t help but eat it occasionally, it tastes even better….
It was time for Rath to express his tastelessness in contrast to his ecstatic expression.
[Trait is triggered].
[Talent achievement increases].
-Crrrrrr!
Rath screamed as he saw the message again.
-He, stop eating!
Rath shook his head as he was told not to eat any more.
“Okay.
Raon put down the meat without regret.
“Let’s go back then.
He didn’t really care what happened, he’d already been rewarded enough.
-Hey!
Rath waved his hand in dismay.
-Ha, one more….
“Yeah.
-No, don’t eat it!
‘Yes.’
-Just eat it! Don’t eat it!
He clutched his head, tears of frustration in his eyes and drool of appetite in his mouth.
‘What, what can I do….’
-The system, you angelic bastard!
* * *
The entrance to a small cave, barely big enough for one or two people.
“Mmm….”
An old goblin named Bobor groaned softly in front of the cave’s entrance.
“Why aren’t you coming?”
Matirus, who had promised to return after destroying Seifia, hadn’t been seen for two days, and the great forest in the distance was only slightly scorched, not completely obliterated.
“What the hell happened….”
Vovor paced in front of the cave, his brow furrowed.
“Is this it?”
“Yes.”
A dark-haired woman and an elf emerged, their voices filled with anticipation.
“Eh, human?”
Vovor stepped back, startled. It was the first time in hundreds of years that a human had entered the area known as the Rare of Mathirus.
“And a talking goblin, too.”
The dark-haired woman smirked at Vovor.
“Where do you think you’re going with your lowly footsteps? This is Lord Matirus’ Rare…. of the Mountains.”
“Uh. I knew.”
She smiled as if she knew, and drew her sword.
“You came with that knowledge? You will incur the wrath of Lord Mathirus if you wield a sword in this land!”
Vovor shook his head from side to side. Matirus was gone, and most of the Guardians were with him, but he could only bluff now.
“How can a dead man be angry.”
The dark-haired woman smirked and shrugged.
“He’s dead, Lord Mathirus?”
The old goblin jerked his chin.
“Yep. Very tasty.”
The dark-haired woman savoured the dragon meat, as if it had grown on her.
“Well, don’t lie to me, there’s no way he’d be killed by a human….”
“Never mind. You follow your master.”
She raised her sword, promising a painless slash.
“Blood, inevitable.
The reason she had been chosen to guard the Rare was because she was fluent in several languages and had a mind of her own.
There was no way to stop that glowing blade, for brute force was no match for even the lowest Guardian.
“Uhhh….”
“Enough.”
A muffled voice came from down the hill as Vovor lowered his eyes to contemplate death.
He looked up in fear, and a blond-haired human stood before him.
“It’s good to have someone to guide you.”
“Ah….”
Vovor’s jaw twitched. There was an aura about the human that rivalled even Mathirus.
“Will you?”
The blond-haired human flashed him a frosty smile, as if to say goodbye.
“Yes….”
Vovor merely nodded.
* * *
Unlike the narrow entrance, Matirus’s Rare was huge, as if it had been carved out of the mountain range itself. It was more than a sepia in size.
However, there was no object, no treasure, nothing to be seen inside. It was just an empty cavity.
“What! There’s nothing there!”
Marta frowned as she stared at the size of Matirus’s Rare, which was nothing.
“No ice cream….”
Lunan shook his head in disappointment.
“Of course there isn’t!”
Crane tapped his chest in frustration.
“Hmm, were we being frugal…?”
Buren tapped his chin as if to say yes.
“Ma, yes….”
The old goblin who introduced himself as Bobor shook his head.
“Matirus was always frugal, focusing on sleeping and not really amassing riches.”
He shook his head, noting that unlike the other dragons, Matirus did not collect human treasure.
“Really?”
Raon narrowed his eyes at Vovor.
“That’s a little awkward.
There was a hint of smoke, but unlike humans, the goblin’s face made it hard to tell.
It was hard to torture him, though, as he was an ordinary goblin and would probably die quickly.
‘It feels real.
I scattered my chi all over Rare, but I didn’t feel any empty space.
-Didn’t the Bone King say we should roast some more meat!
Rath frowned, as if he wanted to go back and eat more meat.
“Are you sure you want to eat it?
-A….
His lips twitched as he remembered the rewards of eating meat.
-No, don’t eat it! No, eat it! Black….
Rath collapsed to the floor, playing rock-paper-scissors with himself in the mirror.
“Does this mean I have to go find someone else?
As he wondered if he should look for Black Dragon or Red Dragon rares, Dorian leaned down and began sniffing the ground.
“I smell it, I smell supply!”
Dorian’s eyes widened, and he pulled out his pickaxe and began to strike at the base of the Rare.
“What are you doing?”
Marta frowned at Dorian.
“Over here, I’m sure!”
When the ground didn’t crumble, Dorian dropped the pickaxe and brought his armoured sword down.
Kuwaaaaah!
The cave shuddered under his power, and the earth dug deep.
A thin golden light flashed through the dark cavern. Beneath the broken earth, gold bars lay like marble.
“….”
“….”
Raon and Vovor’s eyes met.
“Oh, that, that’s….”
“This is it?”
Raon smirked and stomped his foot.
Kuwaaaaaaang!
The thick earth cracked open and a brilliant golden glow filled Rare.
