“What is it?”
Although Do-wook and his friends were the ones who did well in school, they were not a group of students. Because of this, there were cases where Iljin often came and started arguments. Jinseong Yoon answered with annoyance, as if something bothersome had happened again.
However, Dowook had no choice but to flinch for a moment. Of course, it was because of the trauma that Kim Bo-myeong had inside him.
“Would you like to see it from above?”
Dowook even flinched for a moment before facing his senior head on. What if Kim Bo-myung had shot Seo Kang-jun straight like this? The hand would have come flying out immediately. However, the senior was unable to hide his nervousness from Do-wook’s indifferent gaze. Dowook sighed briefly and then answered.
“I’ll see you here now.”
***
The senior who came to visit was nothing special.
“Are you… by any chance interested in Jihye Lee?”
“Who?”
Do-wook remembered the girl in his class who handed him a drink one step too late. The senior was embarrassed by Do-wook’s reaction and continued.
“no. “It turned out to be none.”
Jin-seong Yoon immediately noticed that his senior liked Ji-hye Lee and came to visit Do-wook. They acted like they were going to have a big fight, but in the end it was a women’s issue. Yoon Jin-seong thought that he was a pathetic senior, and it was surprising that Kang Do-wook had no interest in Lee Ji-hye, who was popular here and there.
“tomorrow? what? audition?”
“uh. “I actually have an audition tomorrow.”
Do-wook confided in Jin-seong Yoon about the audition.
“I didn’t know you wanted to be a celebrity. “Has that been driving you crazy lately?”
Jin-seong Yoon was a little disappointed, but soon cheered Do-wook on to have a good audition.
Today was the day of the audition. Dowook went on the road for the audition.
Dowook had been a little nervous until yesterday, but today he felt at ease. It could have been because he realized that now that he had become Kang Do-wook, it was nothing even if senior Iljin came to visit him. It could also have been because of his friend’s support.
HIT Entertainment’s headquarters was not far from Dowook’s house. It was a bit far from the center of Gangnam.
Later, the company expanded and moved to a slightly larger and better building, but for now, one of the old six-story buildings was the headquarters. The third floor of the building was an office, and from the fourth floor onwards were various practice rooms and recording studios.
In front of the office building, there were groups of female students who appeared to be Monster’s sasaeng fans. Fans gather to see the Monster members going to and from the practice room. It was a sight I often saw when commuting to and from Q Entertainment. Because it was the weekend, more fans than usual came and camped out.
Do-wook had a hard time stopping Kang Seo-hyun from following him. Seohyun Kang’s intentions were too obvious. I thought that if Kang Seohyun made a fuss because she came along and saw the Monster members, it would further interfere with the audition.
Do-wook promised Kang Seo-hyun that if he became a trainee, he would get Monster’s autograph first, and was able to go to the audition hall alone.
The audition took place in the main practice room on the 4th floor. Instead of a waiting room, simple chairs were lined up in the hallway in front of the main practice room. There were about twenty people waiting in the hallway.
10:45 AM
Do-wook was assigned to the morning slot for today’s audition, which runs in 15-minute increments. Five people can enter at one time. It was said that the time the judges allotted for each person was about 3 minutes.
“Please join the next team!”
Five participants, including Dowook, stood up and headed to the main practice room.
The open space of about 20 pyeong had mirrors on all sides. A total of three judges sat at a long table and looked at the audition participants coming through the door.
The judges were Hit Entertainment’s rookie development team. From the right, he was the acting manager and team leader of the rookie development team. While the rookie development team is preparing a male idol group to follow Monster, the current trainees are not satisfied, so additional auditions are held in addition to the regular auditions.
“Then, student number 55 should come out first.”
An assistant manager from the rookie development team led the audition.
Number 55, standing next to Do-wook, took a step forward. Do-wook glanced at the back of number 55 and at the three male students standing next to him.
Like Kang Do-wook before, some people may have come with a light heart, thinking of giving it a try as a celebrity. There will also be participants who really desperately want to become singers. No matter how you came, you couldn’t help but feel tense if you had three adults staring at you like they were going to eat you.
While number 55 was catching his breath to start singing, Dowook also swallowed his saliva out of nervousness.
After number 55 sang about three lines of the song he had prepared, the assistant manager stopped singing. Next was the camera test.
All five people standing here may make it, or they may all fall. Do-wook composed himself as he waited for his turn, which was right in front of him.
But what was certain was that he would stick.
‘Kang Do-wook passes! I passed the exam even when I couldn’t sing at all. Unless something goes wrong… no. ‘I’m sure I’ll pass because I haven’t had any problems with changing my soul.’
Bo-myung clenched his fists.
‘It’s a confidence I’ve never had while living as Kim Bo-myeong.’
Because I was confident, I felt much less nervous.
It would have been nice if Kim Bo-myeong had a little more confidence in himself. I was trampled before I even had a chance to gain confidence, so there are some things I can’t do anything about.
“Next number 56.”
“yes.”
Number 55 came in behind and Dowook went to the front. I stood at the place marked with tape in the very center facing the judges’ seats.
Is it because you are not really yourself? Bo-myeong, who became Do-wook, was able to objectively notice the gaze pouring on Do-wook.
The judges’ eyes were seen shining for once. In particular, the eyes of the woman who was the head of the rookie development team sparkled. The team leader was secretly impressed by Do-wook’s handsome mask from the moment he entered. The assistant manager usually conducted the proceedings, but the team leader opened his mouth and asked directly.
“Dancing? sing?”
“I will sing.”
“okay. “Do what you have prepared.”
The song Do-wook prepared as his audition song was Kim Byeong-soo’s ‘I Miss You’.
The song Do-wook originally wanted to sing was a song by Kim Woo-yeon, who became his vocal teacher. However, Kim Woo-yeon cut Do-wook’s opinion with a single cut.
There were two reasons. Firstly, it is not a good audition song because it is not famous and there is a high possibility that the judges will not know about it. Second, it was a song that required a lot of detailed technique, so Bo-myeong was not good at performing it.
Kim Byung-soo’s ‘I Miss You’ was a song that prioritized emotion over technique. This meant that it was a song that could compete with its mournful tone and emotional expression.
Of course, it was able to become a national song thanks to Kim Byung-soo’s crazy singing ability. That level of skill was not required at the auditions that select idol trainees anyway. It was an audition where there was a chance of winning with just one outstanding feature. In that case, Kim Woo-yeon thought that it would be enough if only Kang Do-wook’s strengths stood out.
If you select ‘I Miss You’ and adjust the pitch and tempo to a certain degree, Kang Do-wook’s strengths, which are a comfortable yet attractive tone, will be revealed.
“I want to see it. I want to see it.”
Kim Woo-yeon’s thoughts were half correct.
“I’m going to hate myself like this, mank-um-”
After a month of intense training, Do-wook was able to match the pitch and beat to perfection. It didn’t just feel like a good song, it felt like a good song.
As Kim Woo-yeon expected, the judges listened closely and were absorbed in Do-wook’s low voice.
But it wasn’t just because of Dowook’s tone. A serious look emanating from his face. Impressive eyes were concentrating on them, as if they had no choice but to select Dowook in this position.
“I enjoyed it. This time a camera.”
After finishing the song, a simple camera test followed.
The camera focused on Dowook. I took pictures of the front and side views, respectively. For the average person, when looking at a face on a monitor, it tends to look flatter than when seeing it in person.
“forehead! Would you like to lift your bangs?”
The assistant manager, who was staring intently at the monitor, pointed to Dowook’s bangs in a slightly flushed tone. Dowook raised his hand and lifted the bangs that were covering his forehead.
Sigh – when I put up my bangs, my impression changed immediately. Rather than looking plain, Do-wook in the monitor was so intense that it seemed as if he was going to break through the monitor.
‘Stuck!’
Not only the judges Dowook, but also the other contestants. Everyone in the main practice room predicted that Kang Do-wook would pass.

The final audition took place the very next Monday. It was an audition that included not only the new talent development team but also two additional production directors. The interview ended after asking a few personal questions and thoughts. Competition rate of 98:1. There were only 3 successful applicants in total.
Dowook became one of those three.
“Do-Wook! Kang Do-wook! “My one and only cousin!”
“There’s one more person.”
“There is only one heart. So did you see the monster? Even just one person?”
Of course, the person I liked most about passing the audition was my cousin, Kang Seo-hyun. I was happier than Do-wook’s parents. Seohyun brought Dowook to the family restaurant, saying she would buy him a meal to celebrate. I wasn’t that happy because it was a favor I was hoping for, but anyway, it wasn’t a bad feeling to have someone who was happy with me.
“How do you look at it? “I haven’t seen it yet.”
“Do you go every day now? “When did you start practicing?”
“From tomorrow.”
Kang Do-wook finished cutting the steak and took out a Juseomjuseom note from his bag.
“Now here.”
“what’s this?”
“The first mission is light. Get the autographs of all members here by next week. TO. “You know Seohyun, right?”
“what? Why should I…”
“Or spit it out!”
Seohyun held out her palm as if to spit out what she had just eaten. Dowook shook his head at his immature cousin. Even though he bought me a meal once and wanted a lot of things, liking an idol without any other worries was a stigma in life, and I didn’t hate my cousin.
There were many bright and positive lives that were different from Kim Bo-myeong’s and did not harm others. Living as Kang Do-wook made it easy to find him. I was envious, and at the same time, I felt like that was the life I lived.
“I will if I can.”
Dowook answered as he put the steak into his mouth. Although he had a grave face, Do-wook had a complicated mind.
‘Everything went smoothly up to this point. The problem starts now.’
