When I Opened My Eyes I Was a Superstar - Chapter 5

Prepared Talent (2)
#Ready Talent (2)
“Composition?”
“yes.”
Kim Sum played with his braided hair as a habit. I was giving keyboard lessons to raise money for my band’s album. Since he is also in charge of composing music in the band, Kim Sum’s own assessment was that he could teach if he wanted to, but his skills were not yet at that level.
“Do you also want to learn composition? I don’t have the skills to teach anyone. “If you look into it, you will find many other good teachers.”
“I want to learn from you, teacher.”
It was a voice filled with firm determination. Kim Sum’s eyes wavered slightly.
Kim Sum was curious. He was not famous for his compositions, and it was natural that he would be surprised when a student who came in after seeing a sign while walking down the street asked to teach composition, which he was not in charge of.
Bo-myeong also noticed Kim Sum’s embarrassment. Bo-myeong quickly shook his head.
“You’re the person who plays the Rainbow Band keyboard… right?”
“Oh my god, do you know Rainbow?”
“yes. I like you, see you here. “I understand you write Rainbow songs.”
“that’s right!”
Kim Sum’s embarrassment suddenly turned into joy and his face turned red.
“I like all Rainbow songs. “How can I not learn?”
“It’s amazing that a young student knows our song. “You seem really interested in music!”
In fact, Bomyeong’s favorite songs were Kim Sum’s ballad songs, not the songs from the indie band Rainbow’s album. I’ve never really heard it before. However, the ballad songs composed by Kim Sum had not yet been released to the world. I thought it would be most persuasive to explain that I liked Rainbow’s songs.
It was the right decision. Kim Sum was excited when he heard that high school students liked Rainbow’s songs, which have a huge fan base.
“Yes, please.”
He had an incredibly likable appearance, and he even had good manners, not like a high school student these days. It was a tone that could not have been inferior to a business meeting.
Even though Kim Sum was worried about whether he would be able to teach well, he was motivated to give it a try.
“Have you ever learned to play the piano?”
“yes. But because I learned it when I was young, my fingers became stiff.”
I attended piano lessons until my first year of middle school. It was the only academy that Bomyeong attended to pursue his dream despite his difficult circumstances. It seemed like Bo-myeong’s body could play the piano right now, but right now, his body was Kang Do-wook’s. A state in which you remember something in your head, but have never learned it in your body.
‘Can Kang Do-wook really be able to play the piano with his hands?’
Kim Sum nodded.
“Then I guess I know how to read sheet music. How much code do you know? “To compose music, you need to know at least some chords.”
“yes. “I know all the codes.”
“thank god!”
At that time, the academy door opened and a man in his early 30s came in. A man in unsophisticated attire, with messy hair and an upturned shirt collar.
‘It’s Kim Woo-yeon!’
Bo-myung quickly got up from his seat. When I was working at Q Entertainment, I met Kim Woo-yeon once or twice in the company hallway. I never imagined that I would meet Kim Woo-yeon’s past like this.
‘Well, nothing has happened since yesterday that I could have imagined.’
When Kim Woo-yeon came in, Kim Sum quickly introduced Bo-myeong to Woo-yeon.
“I am a student who came here because I wanted to take vocal lessons.”
“Oh yeah?”
Kim Woo-yeon looked Bo-myeong up and down with a sad look on his face.
“You look handsome. What do you do by learning to sing? “Seduce women?”
“yes?”
“Or a singer?”
“A singer.”
“okay. “Both dogs and cows challenge themselves to become singers, but there’s nothing they can’t do just because they’re young.”
If this is the first impression, Kim Woo-yeon was a cynical and unlucky person. Bo-myung was dazed for a moment. I knew I was disappointed after the first album, but I didn’t know it would be this bad. It was even more shocking considering Kim Woo-yeon, who always greeted Bo-myeong, a junior employee, well when she met him in the hallway.
“Hey, take a seat first. Please sit down and talk.”
Kim Sum pulled a chair between Bo-myeong and Kim Woo-yeon, not knowing what to do.
“I have an audition for an agency in a month.”
As soon as Kim Woo-yeon sat down, Bo-myeong spoke directly.
“what? A month later? “You’re not telling me what to do after a month, right?”
Naturally, Kim Woo-yeon reacted with absurdity.
“yes. no. I want to learn properly from the basics. Even if I get accepted to that audition, I plan to continue learning from the teacher until the end, regardless of the agency.”
Kim Woo-yeon’s expression became strange as Bo-myeong looked at her without wavering. I had a nice appearance, so I heard somewhere that I was supposed to be a celebrity, so it seemed like I set out to become an easy singer. It didn’t seem like that was necessarily the case. I saw so many kids like that that I got kicked in the foot while I was a singer and a vocal trainer. There was something different about the boy in front of me from the other kids I had seen.
“When did I see you, teacher? “Who is your teacher?”
If the director had seen it, it was an astonishing attitude toward a student who came to visit on his own. Kim Woo-yeon was giving a test that he didn’t even know about, as if he was asking if he would still take lessons from him even if he had this attitude.
Of course it was. Whatever his personality, Kim Woo-yeon was, in name and reality, the best vocalist in Korea. Bo-myung didn’t think there would be a better vocal teacher than Kim Woo-yeon even now that he wasn’t famous.
“Isn’t this an academy? A place to teach people. “You are an instructor employed by the academy.”
Kim Woo-yeon burst into laughter at Bo-myeong’s cutting remarks. No matter what I say, I am not discouraged. Despite what he looked like, he wasn’t an ordinary person.
“good. Then call me.”
“yes?”
“I’m not going to teach you unless you have basic skills. “Try singing!”
Unlike his confident attitude just before, Bomyeong stood up hesitantly. The drum instructor and students were coming out of the practice room as if the drum lesson had ended. Regardless, Kim Woo-yeon urged Bo-myeong.
It was natural to check basic skills, but this was before I even registered for the course. Plus, it’s not a practice room, but an academy hallway. Even Kim Sum, there were only four eyes to see.
Bo-myeong felt like cold sweat was running down his back. I knew it because I called it with my mouth. That’s how bad your singing skills are. It was clear that he would be laughed at. Because of his past, Bo-myeong had an extreme fear of being laughed at by others, even more than others. So, I became a more passive and passive person.
“Aren’t you calling me? “Is it a sack of barley?”
“… I’m calling.”
Bomyeong closed his eyes and started singing.
The title of Kim Woo-yeon’s first album was ‘If It Was a Dream’.
.
.
“it’s okay. stop.”
When Bomyeong sang about three verses of the chorus. Kim Woo-yeon stopped singing. Bo-myeong immediately closed his mouth, which had been open while singing.
“hmm.”
A groan of pain flowed from Kim Woo-yeon’s mouth.
“This song…”
Kim Woo-yeon muttered as if he was talking to himself. Rather than being surprised that he knew his own song, his tone was a mixture of irritation that he was singing this song so poorly.
Bo-myeong froze and waited for Kim Woo-yeon’s harsh criticism. Bo-myeong may be frozen on the inside, but on the outside, Kang Do-wook maintains his characteristic emotionless face.
“Class starts tomorrow. One hour twice a week. That’s usually my curriculum. You will have to come three times. If you don’t do the assigned tasks, it will take another ten years to reach a level where it is not harmful to human eardrums. “Even if I do well, one year?”
Bo-myeong quickly came to his senses and nodded as Kim Woo-yeon poured out his words without hesitation. I thought they were going to tell me to hit them if they were going to sing like that, but they weren’t.
Bomyeong looked at the people surrounding him one by one. No one was laughing at Bo-myeong or laughing at his ridiculous singing skills.
Even if I say good things about Bo-myeong’s singing, it certainly cannot be said to be good. However, there was seriousness in it. I had a passion to become a real singer. Everyone here, including Kim Woo-yeon, was passionate about music enough to notice that passion.
Also, everyone knew it. No one is good from the beginning. So, ‘learning’.
“Are you just nodding your head rudely?”
“Oh no! i look forward to!”
Hearing Bo-myeong shout out in a loud voice, Kim Woo-yeon burst out laughing without realizing it and stood up from his seat.
Kim Woo-yeon had already given Bo-myeong his own approval from the moment Bo-myeong started singing, even though he forced himself to suddenly sing in front of people. Listening to Bomyeong’s serious song, it seemed as if his lost passion for singing was revived.
In addition, although the pitch and beat sounded like they lacked natural sense, the tone was good. It was a mid-low voice that could be heard by anyone of any taste. There was also a hidden feature that would shine like a jewel if polished.
It is not an easy task to solidify the basics and develop a sense of humor, but it is not something that cannot be done.
Next, Kim Sum came out and told us about the composition class schedule. Kim Sum asked if it would be difficult to learn at the same time, but Bo Myung shook his head.
Even though it was hard, I had to do it and I would do it.
“I haven’t even asked your name properly yet. “Your name is… Kang Do-wook?”
Kim Sum asked after looking at the name tag around his neck. Bo-myeong nodded.
“Yes, this is Kang Do-wook. “Thank you again.”
Nod. I greeted Kim Sum and Kim Woo-yeon. Now, his life as Kang Do-wook has truly begun.
***
“Hey Dowook! wake up!”
Do-wook, who was sleeping face down, opened his eyes in a fuss. It was Yoon Jin-seong who shook Do-wook’s shoulder and woke him up.
“It’s lunch time, man. “I used to just sleep all the time, but isn’t it too much these days?”
“Ha-am……”
Do-wook stretched and yawned lazily. It’s natural that he must look ugly as he yawns without even thinking about covering his mouth, but the sight of him stretching out his long arms was like a scene from a drama. It wasn’t for no reason that the girls were squealing that they liked Kang Do-wook. Although they were close friends, Jinseong Yoon clicked his tongue louder because he was unlucky at times like this.
“Hurry~! “The cafeteria line is getting longer.”
“okay. Uh… ugh.”
Dowook, who was getting up from his seat, clutched his stomach and frowned.
“Oh, my stomach hurts.”
This was because I received harsh vocal lessons from Kim Woo-yeon yesterday as well. Kim Woo-yeon said that Do-wook had to learn how to make sounds properly, and took care of everything from Do-wook’s breathing to his standing and sitting posture.
Kim Woo-yeon, who said that you have to make sounds with your stomach when singing, mercilessly applied force to Do-wook’s abdomen every time Do-wook tried to make a sound with his throat. As I began to use abdominal muscles that I had not used before, my stomach felt tight and painful after the lesson. I was glad that Kim Sum told me that it would become natural over time and wouldn’t hurt.
It wasn’t just practice on days when there were lessons. Dowook was doing his best to improve his vocal skills and composition skills by carving out time every day. The pace of development, which was slow at first, was gradually accelerating.
Jinseong Yoon asked as he walked down the hallway stairs to the cafeteria.
“What are you always doing, disappearing after school?”
“me?”
“okay. Even if you ask me to go out for a drink, I don’t go and I don’t play games. “You got a girl?”
“What about women?”
“If you find a girl and don’t tell her, I really feel betrayed.”
“I said no.”
Do-wook took one look at Jin-seong and felt like it was right to say that he was preparing for the audition. It may seem a little light, but Yoon Jin-seong was a good friend of Kang Do-wook.
“Your mood has changed these days. “I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
It’s not that Jinseong is overdoing it, but in fact, Dowook’s mood has changed a lot. The original Do-wook felt like he was half-heartedly doing everything without any motivation. Thanks to his handsome appearance, even such things were considered cool, but even after talking to him for a while, it was easy to see that Do-wook was only interested in having fun.
But these days, even though I just go to school and sleep during class, something is different.
A word uttered from time to time had surprising weight. The serious and mature atmosphere made Dowook even more handsome. The girls who originally liked Dowook were even more upset.
It’s mature. Jinseong thought about the meaning of those words as he looked at Dowook recently.
“Jinseong Yoon, I actually have an audition tomorrow….”
At that time, a third-year senior approached Do-wook at the end of the hallway with a grim expression on his face.
“There you are.”
